Ferreira, Sara; Laranjo, Mafalda; Abrantes, Ana Margarida; Brito, Ana; Metello, Luís F.; Zeevart, Jan; Louw, Werner; Dormehl, Irene; Botelho, Maria Filomena188Re is a promising radionuclide for metabolic therapy because of the emission of high energy beta-particles. The development of water-soluble polymers such as PEI-MP (polyethyleneimine, functionalised with methylphosphonate groups) that might be labeled with 188Re are recent approaches, with a strong potential for metabolic radiotherapy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of 188Re-PEI-MP, as therapeutic agent for bladder carcinoma

Ferreira, Sara; Laranjo, Mafalda; Brito, Ana; Abrantes, Ana Margarida; Metello, Luís F.; Zeevart, Jan; Louw, Werner; Dormehl, Irene; Botelho, Maria FilomenaIntroduction: 188Re is a promising radionuclide for metabolic therapy because of the emission of high energy beta-particles. The development of water-soluble polymers such as PEI-MP (polyethyleneimine, functionalised with methylphosphonate groups) that might be labeled with 188Re are recent approaches, with a strong potential for metabolic radiotherapy.
- A comparative study to analyse the potential of 99mTc-PEI-MP for diagnosis and 188Re-PEI-MP for therapy of bladder carcinoma and osteosarcomaPublication . Ferreira, Sara; Laranjo, Mafalda; Abrantes, Ana Margarida; Brito, Ana; Metello, Luís F.; Zeevart, Jan; Louw, Werner; Dormehl, Irene; Botelho, Maria FilomenaIntroduction: The water-soluble polymer PEI-MP (polyethyleneimine, functionalised with methylphosphonate groups) that might be labeled with 188Re (emits high energy B- particles) and 99mTc presents a strong potential for metabolic radiotherapy and diagnosis, respectively. The aim of this study was to evaluate in vivo the potential of 188Re-PEI-MP as therapeutic agent and 99mTc-PEI-MP asdiagnostic agent for bladder carcinoma and osteosarcoma. Material and methods: Cytotoxicity of PEI-MP was investigated in bladder carcinoma cell line (CRL-1472) using the MTT test for different concentrations of PEI-MP (1 uM to 1000 uM) and incubation times (24h, 48h, 72h and 96h).

- Evaluation of the potential of 99mTc-PEI-MP for diagnosis and follow-up, in a comparative study using in vivo models of bladder cancer and osteosarcomaPublication . Ferreira, Sara; Abrantes, Ana Margarida; Laranjo, Mafalda; Metello, Luís F.; Dormehl, Irene; Botelho, Maria FilomenaIntroduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate in vivo the efficacy of 99mTc-PEI- MP (polyethyleneiminomethyl phosphonic acid) for diagnosis of bladder cancer and osteosarcoma

- Polyethyleneiminomethyl phosphonic acid (PEI-MP) radiolabeled with technetium-99m as a potential new radiopharmaceutical for diagnosis of bladder cancerPublication . Ferreira, Sara; Abrantes, Ana Margarida; Laranjo, Mafalda; Metello, Luís F.; Casalta-Lopes, João; Dormehl, Irene; Botelho, Maria FilomenaIntroduction: The polymer PEI-MP (polyethyleneiminomethyl phosphonic acid) might be labelled with 99mTc. It was initially synthesized for palliative therapy of bone metastases after convenient radiolabelling, however in biodistribution studies performed with different PEI-MP/radionuclides, was obvious that the bladder wall was a target organ [1-3], demonstrating a certain selectivity to bladder cells, and so, to bladder cancer cells. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of 99mTc-PEI-MP for diagnosis of bladder carcinoma, evaluating in vitro and in vivo the biokinetics and biodistribution of 99mTc-PEI-MP
- A Possible New Molecule For Diagnosis and Follow Uo of Bladder Cancer: The Radiolabelled Polymer 99mTc-PEI-MPPublication . Tavares-Silva, Edgar; Ferreira, Sara; Abrantes, Ana Margarida; Brito, Ana; Laranjo, Mafalda; Metello, Luís F.; Zeevart, Jan; Louw, Werner; Dormehl, Irene; Botelho, Maria FilomenaIntroduction: The polymer PEI-MP (polyethyleneimine, functionalised with methylphosphonate groups) was initially synthesized for palliative therapy of bone metastases after convenient radiolabelling. However, in biodistribution studies performed with this polymer radiolabelled with different radionuclides, was obvious a higher uptake by the bladder wall, that might demonstrate a certain selectivity to bladder cells, and so, to bladder cancer cells. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of PEI-MP radiolabeled with 99mTc for imaging diagnosis and follow up of bladder cancer.
