- A2.8 Effect of home exercise program in quality of life in patients with ankylosing spondylitisPublication . Mesquita, Cristina; Lopes, Sofia; Excelsa Moreira, Maria; Lopes, Patrícia; Carneiro, Ana; Silva, Daniela; Neves, Inês; Araújo, Filipa; Vitorino, AliceBackground and Objectives Ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic, rheumatic and inflammatory disease with a generally progressive course. The pain and stiffness are the main symptoms that cause the individual less mobility and changes in the sleep cycle producing fatigue, anxiety, stress and depression. This group of symptoms changes the well-being and quality of life of individuals. It is important to follow the recommendations of the physiotherapist about duration and frequency to ensure their effectiveness and improve the quality of life of individuals. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a home-based exercise program in quality of life of people with ankylosing spondylitis.
- A7.1 Cultural adaptation and validation of instruments the london fibromyalgia epidemiology study screening questionnaire and fibromyalgia new clinical diagnostic criteria for the portuguese population with fibromyalgiaPublication . Mesquita, Cristina; Lopes, Sofia; Araújo, Filipa; Vitorino, Alice; Neves, Inês; Silva, Daniela; Lopes, Patrícia; Moreira, Excelsa; Carneiro, AnaBackground and Objectives Fibromyalgia it is recognised as a chronic condition because of high morbidity. Usually classified as a disease by the absence of functional organic changes, the diagnosis is controversial and takes approximately 2 to 3 years to be established by a rheumatologist. To minimize this gap, as well as the negative impact on quality of life of patients and the socio-economic context of the country concerned can resort to the administration of validated questionnaires. They also facilitate the collection of reliable information and its comparison with international studies in the scientific community. The objective of this study is culturally adapt and validate the instruments The London Fibromyalgia Epidemiology Study Screening Questionnaire (LFESSQ) and Clinical New Fibromyalgia Diagnostic Criteria (NCFDC) for the Portuguese population with FM.
- A7.2 Evaluation of the influence of a program of home-based exercises in disability due to neck pain in subjects with FibromyalgiaPublication . Mesquita, Cristina; Lopes, Sofia; Neves, Inês; Silva, Daniela; Araújo, Filipa; Vitorino, Alice; Lopes, Patrícia; Moreira, Excelsa; Carneiro, AnaBackground and Objectives Patients with fibromyalgia often feel disable in daily function and admit a great impact in quality of life due to their health condition. The recommendations of an exercise program are important, because individuals with FM are often inactive and physically deconditioned, they fear that exercise exacerbates symptoms. The exercise programs for individuals with fibromyalgia have poor adhesion primarily by the need for equipment, facilities and travel, and the presence of depressive symptoms. All these factors are relevant and take into account when designing the home-based exercise program. The objective of this study was investigate the effect of a home-based exercise program in disability caused by neck pain in patients with fibromyalgia.
- A7.3 Evaluation the effect of a home-exercise program based on disability caused by back pain in individuals with fibromyalgiaPublication . Mesquita, Cristina; Lopes, Sofia; Silva, Daniela; Neves, Inês; Araújo, Filipa; Vitorino, Alice; Lopes, Patrícia; Excelsa Moreira, Maria; Carneiro, AnaBackground and Objectives Fibromyalgia (FM) is a rheumatic disease and the cause remains unknown, it’s characterised by the presence of musculoskeletal widespread pain, and the lumbar region is one of the places frequently affected. Pain presented by FM patients is usually described as the forum muscular, and one of the most referred to is the back. These painful situations can be associated to the function of the lumbar support of the upper body weight, so this region being subjected to compressive loads and lumbopelvic instability situations, which are frequently associated with low back pain, so it is important to consciousness of posture neutral in the lumbar spine, strengthening and stretching the muscles responsible for the stability of this region. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of an exercise program performed at home in the level of disability caused by low back pain in patients with FM.
- A7.4 Study of psychometric properties of the "medical outcomes Scale (MOS) sleep scale" in the portuguese population with fibromyalgiaPublication . Mesquita, Cristina; Lopes, Sofia; Vitorino, Alice; Araújo, Filipa; Neves, Inês; Silva, Daniela; Lopes, Patrícia; Moreira, Excelsa; Carneiro, AnaBackground and Objectives Sleep is a highly organised biological process that is an important component of functioning and well-being of human. Sleep disorders have been referred as one of the main symptoms of Fibromyalgia. However, after the pain, sleep disorder symptoms is most often referenced by these individuals, including non-restorative sleep, insomnia and poor quality sleep. Recent studies suggest a reciprocal relationship between pain and sleep. Thus, the new diagnostic criteria proposed by American College of Rheumatology (ACR) suggest that sleep should be a central aspect of Fibromyalgia clinical evaluation. The objective of this study is evaluate the psychometric properties of the MOS Sleep Scale in patients with Fibromyalgia.
- Acute effect of neuromuscular electrostimulation in the torque and cross-sectional area of the Extensor Digitorum Communis muscle. Real-time ultrasound imagingPublication . Lopes, Alexandre; Faria, Susana; Quadrado, Pedro; Silva, Diogo C. F.Neuromuscular electrostimulation (NMES) is a therapeutic resource widely used by most physiotherapists with the objective of favoring muscle strengthening, prevention or recovery from atrophy due to disuse, however there is still no scientific consensus on which is the most effective current for this purpose. This study aims to evaluate the acute effect induced by low and medium frequency electrostimulation in an isometric contraction of wrist extension and compare them with the maximum voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) (1) in the force production capacity and (2) in the vertical and horizontal values of the cross-sectional area of the Extensor Digitorum Communis muscle (EDC). There are no differences between the mean values for height or width between the TENS and Kotz currents, nor between the two NMES currents and the MVIC. No differences were found in the capacity for power generation of the administration of NMES currents and the MVIC. No differences were found in the height or width values between the TENS and Kotz currents, nor between the two NMES currents and the MVIC. No differences were found in the capacity for power generation of the exclusive administration of NMES currents and the MVIC, in a population of healthy adults.
