- The impact of firm-promoted accreditation of prior learning processes on the worker-organization relationshipPublication . Martins, Helena; Rebelo, Teresa; Tomás, InêsThe process of Competences Recognition, Validation and Certification , also known as Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL), is an innovative means of attaining school certificates for individuals without an academic background. The main objective of this process is to validate what people have learned in informal contexts, in order to attribute academic certificates. With the increasing interest of the qualification of workers and governmental support, more and more Portuguese organizations promote this process within their facilities and their work hours. This study explores the relationship between the promotion of this Human Resource Development Programme and employee’s attitudes (Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment) and behaviours (Extra-role Organizational Citizenship Behaviours) towards the organization they work for. Results of a cross-sectional survey of Portuguese Industrial Workers (N=135) showed that statistical significant results are in the higher levels of Voice Behaviours (a dimension of Extra-role Organizational Citizenship Behaviour in the groups of workers who were involved or had graduated from the firm promoted APL process.

Barreto, João FranciscoMuitas das dificuldades do idoso são as dificuldades adiadas, e agravadas, do Homem da nossa cultura, que parece ter cortado relações com a morte e não conseguir aceitar a vida como algo que não controla em absoluto. Não surpreende, por isso, que também a intervenção junto do idoso possa replicar estas dificuldades, como num “acting-out contratransferencial colectivo”. Porque, efectivamente, proporcionar ao idoso uma relação terapêutica onde possa triangular os conteúdos altamente ameaçadores do confronto com a morte e transformá-los em conteúdos de relação, exige do terapeuta um convívio razoável com os seus próprios “temas existenciais”.
- Problem-Based Learning e suas implicações: breve revisão teóricaPublication . Santos, Andreia; Salgado, Ana; Barreto, João Francisco; Martins, Helena; Dores, Artemisa RochaA ESTSP-IPP implementou em 2008-2009 um novo modelo pedagógico, o PBL, em três licenciaturas. Este modelo tem sido considerado capaz de promover a aquisição de conhecimentos mas também o desenvolvimento de competências transversais valorizadas no mercado de trabalho; orienta-se em torno de problemas significativos da realidade profissional, trabalhados segundo a metodologia dos sete passos, destacando-se a aprendizagem através de pesquisa individual e trabalho de grupo; e visa ainda desenvolver processos cognitivos e metacognitivos como levantar hipóteses, comparar, analisar, interpretar e avaliar. Neste artigo, caracterizamos brevemente o modelo e respectivas implicações, justificando o interesse em investigar as repercussões da sua implementação.

A escola assume um papel relevante na informação e formação desta doença, na prevenção e melhoria de prognóstico quando diagnosticada. Este estudo visa sensibilizar, informar e formar profissionais e encarregados de educação na promoção de estilos de ida saudáveis da criança diabética. O desconhecimento da diabetes na criança é uma problemática atual, a formação "A criança diabética" procurou considerar na sua planificação as necessidades daqueles a quem se destina, envolvendo-os na sua conceção desde o momento da planificação.
- Questionário de envolvimento académico - propriedades psicométricas e validação numa população de estudantes de Tecnologias da SaúdePublication . Martins, Helena; Santos, A. M.; Dores, Artemisa R.; Salgado, Ana; Barreto, JoãoEm 2000, Soares e Almeida desenvolvem o Questionário de Envolvimento Académico – Versão A (QEA) como um instrumento para medir expectativas dos estudantes antes da sua entrada no Ensino Superior, propondo que este compreende 5 subescalas: apoio/investimento institucional; apoio/investimento vocacional; uso/acesso a recursos; desenvolvimento social e desenvolvimento curricular. O QEA foi criado e validado no contexto Universitário. Dado o interesse crescente nestes mesmos construtos num contexto similar, mas não idêntico, o Politécnico, levamos a cabo os procedimentos para validar o instrumento neste contexto através da avaliação das propriedades psicométricas da escala e procedimentos de análise factorial exploratória.

- Virtual City: Neurocognitive rehabilitation of Acquired Brain InjuryPublication . Dores, Artemisa Rocha; Miranda, Maria João; Carvalho, Irene Palmares; Mendes, Liliana; Barbosa, Fernando; Coelho, António; Sousa, Liliana de; Castro Caldas, AlexandreAcquired Brain Injury (ABI) is one of the leading causes of individuals' reduced participation in various contexts of life, compromising autonomous functioning and performance in complex activities. Neurocognitive rehabilitation, carried out by transdisciplinary teams, is part of the intervention after the acute phase, aiming patients' maximum functionality and quality of life. Serious games and virtual reality begin to provide innovative solutions in this area. In this study, a prototype platform for the rehabilitation of executive functioning and other related cognitive functions is presented: the Virtual City. Part of a larger project, it consists of urban virtual environments that simulate real-life scenarios and activities. Tests will be performed to validate it as a tool for the rehabilitation of ABI.

- Virtual centre for the rehabilitation of road accident victims (VICERAVI)Publication . Mendes, Liliana; Dores, Artemisa Rocha; Barbosa, Fernando; Rego, Paula Alexandra; Moreira, Pedro Miguel; Reis, Luís Paulo; Viana, José; Coelho, António; Sousa, ArmandoThe main objective of this work is to describe the Virtual Center for the Rehabilitation of Road Accident Victims - VICERAVI and the serious games it includes for the purpose of neuropsychological rehabilitation. The validation of the VICERAVI as a rehabilitation system involves 30 participants of both sexes, with brain injury due to road accidents. The applicability and the benefits of virtual worlds for a holistic neuropsychological rehabilitation will be tested using virtual reality (OpenSimulator) to simulate tasks of everyday life, enabling participants to perform cognitive and social skills training through their avatars. The progresses of this group will be compared with a group of conventional neuropsychological rehabilitation. The main innovation of the work is the possibility of administering neuropsychological rehabilitation at distance, via ecological virtual environments. Moreover, the paper discusses also relevant criteria and issues in respect to the use of serious games, simulation and virtual environments in rehabilitation.
