- Sound exposure of garage rock bands musiciansPublication . Almeida, João; Silva, Daniel; Carmo, Paulo; Neves, Paula; Rodrigues, Matilde A.Previous studies have been shown that musicians are exposed to high sound levels in the course of rehearsals and performances (Rodrigues et al .,2014), which can be the source of hearing damages (Jansen et al ., 2009). However, other musical groups can also be exposed to high sound levels, as is the case of the garage rock bands musicians. This particular group of musicians, due to the style of the music played, can be exposed to dangerous sound levels. This situation can be even worse if considered the conditions of the rooms where the rehearsals and performances are being done. In fact, in most of cases, rock musicians play in rooms with small dimensions and with poor acoustic conditions. Despite the importance of this issue, few studies analyzed this issue, particularly integrating two important issues, the sound exposure and to hearing damages.

Martins, Diana; Schmitt, FernandoThe Introduction of high-throughput technologies in breast cancer enabled the recognition of groups with prognostic value, in which target-therapies can be applied. However, a relevant percentage of patients show no clinical benefit. A possible solution could be the inhibition of pathways that are common in all tumor subtypes. Alterations of the serine-threonine kinase mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway are common in cancer and thus mTOR is being pursued as a therapeutic agent.

In Portugal there is no such systematic control.
- Innovative technologies for cancer researchPublication . Celestino, RicardoThe next-generation sequencing (NGS) and clustered regularly interspaced palindromic repeats (CRISPR)-Cas9 gene editing are innovative technologies used in genetics and molecular biology which have been revolutionizing the field of cancer research. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) is defined by modern sequencing technologies that allow to sequence millions of DNA and RNA strands much more quickly and cheaply than the conventional Sanger sequencing. These methodologies have raised the knowledge of the cancer genomes contributing for the improvement of the personalized medicine. CRISPR-Cas9 technology is a powerful methodology, which provides unparalleled potential for editing human and non-human genomes. Bacteria use CRISPR naturally as an anti-viral defense immunity mechanism. CRISPR DNA sequences are transcribed into RNAs that in turn can destroy very specific viral DNA sequences via the Cas9 nuclease. Due the specificity of this method, CRISPR-Cas9 may be used in several potential applications in cancer biology: correction of genetic mutations, rapid generation of mouse models and gene therapy. These innovative technologies offer exciting cues in the understanding of cancer genomes and with great opportunities in the improvement of the cancer treatment.
- In vivo models in cancer researchPublication . Costa, Madalena; Quintela Vieira, Filipa; Silva, ReginaCancers figure among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Over the last decade there has been an extraordinary increase in our knowledge of the fundamental molecular processes that are involved in the development of cancer and its response to treatment. Studies in tissue culture have multiplied our acquaintance of cancer cell pathophysiology, mechanisms of transformation and strategies of survival of cancer cell lines, revealing therapeutically exploitable differences to normal cells. However, tumors are heterogeneous, structurally complex and result from an evolving crosstalk between different cell types and its surrounding tissue. A full elucidation of events occurring inside the cancer microenvironment is fundamental more effective therapies. Experiment in vivo models remains essential to understand the fundamental mechanisms underpinning malignancy and to discover improved methods to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. This presentation will summarize currently available in vivo models of cancer, define the limitations and advantages of each modeling option and suggest the basis with which particular models should be used to answer a specific scientific question.
- Saúde Vai à Rua: Projeto de Intervenção na ComunidadePublication . Dores, Artemisa Rocha; Silva, ReginaO projeto “Saúde Vai à Rua” visa aproximar a instituição, através dos seus estudantes e dos docentes, das comunidades, em particular das mais carenciadas, estruturando e projetando o trabalho realizado nos últimos anos. No âmbito deste projeto foram disponibilizados serviços gratuitos na área da saúde, ao longo de 2015, levando-os onde as pessoas se encontram, à sua rua. Os serviços prestados envolveram diferentes áreas de formação da ESTSP-P.Porto, como Audiologia, Análises Clínicas, Anatomia Patológica, Farmácia, Saúde Ambiental, Terapia da Fala, Terapia Ocupacional e diferentes áreas técnico-científicas, como Ciências Sociais e Humanas. A intervenção considerou as pessoas ao longo do seu ciclo de desenvolvimento e foi mediada por associações locais, com um conhecimento privilegiado das áreas geográficas abrangidas e dos que nelas habitam, como a Associação de Solidariedade e Ação Social Asas de Ramalde. Participaram nesta iniciativa 120 estudantes, voluntários, do 3.º e 4.º ano, sob supervisão de docentes. Os estudantes avaliaram a iniciativa e a sua participação através de um questionário, num formato Likert de 5 pontos. Neste trabalho apresentamos o projeto e os resultados da avaliação realizada pelos estudantes. Com esta iniciativa envolvemos populações em risco, contribuindo para as aproximar de serviços na área da saúde. Contribuímos igualmente para a formação de excelência dos nossos estudantes, através do desenvolvimento de competências técnicas e transversais, de modo integrado, e para o reforço de uma visão multidisciplinar da intervenção, que esperamos que seja próxima e presente.

Dores, Artemisa Rocha; Barbosa, Fernando; Geraldo, Andreia,; Silva, ReginaAtualmente, as Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação (TICs) influenciam muitos aspetos das nossas vidas, desafiando valores individuais, sociais e profissionais. Com a sua utilização tornaram-se possíveis soluções pessoais e organizacionais antes inimagináveis. As áreas da terapia e do aconselhamento não são uma exceção, com o surgimento de serviços com novos formatos, prevendo-se o aumento do fenómeno nos próximos anos (Dowling & Rickwood, 2013; Haberstroh, Barney, Foster, & Duffey, 2014; Richards & Viganó, 2013). Apesar disso, a integração das TICs no aconselhamento e na terapia é ainda uma solução pouco explorada e que coloca inúmeros desafios (Cataldo & Bogetti, 2017; & Kraus, 2010).

Os estágios são um dos momentos na formação dos estudantes no qual esta aprendizagem acontece de forma mais ativa no ensino superior. Como tal, acredita-se que para formar profissionais competentes, com conhecimentos sólidos, rigor técnico, capacidade de análise crítica e reflexiva, integrados em equipas multidisciplinares, é crucial garantir uma parceria sólida entre as Escolas Superiores e as Instituições de Saúde.
