- ChatGPT no contexto do Ensino superior: O caso da sua aplicação numa unidade curricularPublication . Costa, A.R.; Viegas, C.; Lima, N.; Caldeira, A.(Contexto) O uso de ferramentas de IA, particularmente o ChatGPT, tem sido generalizado nos últimos anos. A sua aplicação na educação tem sido criticada por alguns e apoiada por outros. Nesta comunicação apresentamos o caso de um trabalho realizado numa unidade curricular de um curso de licenciatura em Engenharia Informática em que o uso do ChatGPT não só foi incentivado como obrigatório. Foi solicitado aos alunos que utilizassem esta ferramenta de forma ética e crítica, comparando os resultados com referências bibliográficas. No final foi realizado um questionário com o objetivo de compreender as perceções dos alunos sobre o trabalho e o uso do ChatGPT.

Coelho, C.; Costa, Alexandra R.A sociedade atual depara-se com uma tarefa árdua de criar um equilíbrio entre as várias dimensões da vida humana: social, profissional e pessoal. Os desafios propostos são cada vez mais exigentes afetando o ritmo da vida quotidiana, sendo por isso necessário tentar manter o equilíbrio para que se tenha o máximo de qualidade de vida possível. A exigência de tentar manter este equilíbrio, associado aos efeitos de um quotidiano acelerado, provoca, com frequência, uma instabilidade a nível cognitivo, físico e social conduzindo a um desgaste constante dos indivíduos e provocando cansaço a nível psicológico, como se todos os seus recursos fossem consumidos. Sucede-se assim um desequilíbrio ou a nível social, ou profissional ou pessoal ou até tridimensional que se pode traduzir em estados de elevada exaustão, de reduzido relacionamento com as pessoas e de sentimentos de baixa realização revelando assim caraterísticas que identificam a Síndrome de Bumout. O Burnout é uma síndrome que influencia negativamente a vida profissional dos indivíduos e que, infelizmente, ainda tende a ser desvalorizado pelas organizações. Pretendeu-se avaliar qual o nível de Burnout da amostra de profissionais do contexto financeiro, onde se inserem profissões relacionadas com finanças, economia, gestão, contabilidade e/ou que prestem funções de suporte às empresas de Auditoria ou Consultadoria.
- Low-Cost Videos for Learning Mathematics by TeachingPublication . Caldeira, Amélia; Lopes, S. O.; Figueiredo, Isabel; Costa, Alexandra R.Technology plays an important role in everyday life and can be used in education. Video is a source of material that can play an important role in the teaching and learning field. Using videos engages students, aids student retention of knowledge, motivates interest in the subject matter, and illustrates the relevance of many concepts. In this chapter, the authors describe two teaching experiences involving videos, where the students made a video about solving a concrete mathematical problem. In this video, the students should explain the problem resolution to their colleagues (playing the role of teacher). The results of the impact of this kind of project in the students' motivation are also presented.

As instituições sociais, e em particular as empresas, requerem quadros profissionais mais capacitados do ponto de vista técnico e científico, assim como um conjunto mais alargado de competências. Jovens e adultos, muitos destes buscando especialização e atualização, sentem o desafio da qualificação como forma de responderem proativamente a estas demandas atuais e futuras da sociedade. Os governos e as instituições são chamados à definição de políticas e implementação de medidas que favoreçam o ingresso, a permanência, a conclusão dos cursos e a empregabilidade dos diplomados. - Da aprendizagem ao sucesso académico: A perspetiva dos estudantes do Ensino SuperiorPublication . Costa, Alexandra R.; Caldeira, Amélia(Excerto introdução) A aprendizagem é o maior determinante do desenvolvimento humano. A forma como aprendemos influencia o curso do nosso desenvolvimento pessoal, profissional e social (Kolb & Kolb, 2005). Ainda que aprendizagem e ensino possam ser fenómenos perfeitamente dissociáveis, a aprendizagem formal, em contexto escolar, resultante da relação estabelecida entre professore aluno assume considerável importância atendendo a que consiste na resposta planeada às exigências do próprio processo de aprendizagem (Santos, 2001). No ensino superior (ES) o estudo da aprendizagem não poderá ser dissociado da fase de desenvolvimento do estudante. O ingresso no ES acontece habitualmente numa fase de entrada do estudante na vida adulta e, como tal, acompanhada por processos de desenvolvimento social e emocional com interferência na vida do estudante e na forma como este se envolve na aprendizagem (Almeida et al., 2018). Confrontado com diferentes métodos de ensino, novos contextos, necessidade de aquisição de competências que lhe permitam fazer face às mudanças a que está sujeito e com a gestão das suas próprias expectativas frequentemente demasiado elevadas, muitos estudantes sentem necessidade de fazer alterações e adaptações ao seu próprio processo de aprendizagem (Almeida et al., 2018; Costa et al., 2016). Face a estas necessidades, os estudantes desenvolvem várias abordagens à aprendizagem, intimamente associadas às condições do contexto em que estão integrados.
- Critical minds: enhancing education with ChatGPTPublication . Its application in education has been criticized by some and supported by others. In this article we present the case of a work carried out as part of a course unit in a computer science degree program in which the use of ChatGPT was not only encouraged but required. Students were asked to use this tool ethically and critically, comparing the results with bibliographical references. A questionnaire addressing students’ perceptions about the work and ChatGPT usage was performed after delivering the task. Results showed that students were motivated to carry out the work and understood that its widespread use requires critical thinking and compliance with ethical principles. The teacher acknowledge that some students developed these competences while performing this task and were able to deliver a quality, well supported essay. The development of this competences was also identified by some students.
- The Impact of Job Satisfaction on the Quality of Life of Formal Caregivers of the ElderlyPublication . Silva, Anabela Almeida; Sousa, Marina; Costa, Alexandra; Gonçalves Martins, Maria Helena; Younis, MustafaBackground/Objectives: Absenteeism refers to the frequent, often unplanned, absence from the workplace. This study examines the interrelations among job satisfaction, quality of life (QoL), and absenteeism among formal caregivers for elderly individuals. With the significant demographic shift toward an aging population, understanding these dynamics is increasingly important. Methods: A sample of 82 caregivers from Portuguese Private Social Solidarity Institutions was used, with QoL assessed through the WHOQOL-Bref and job satisfaction measured via the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ). Results: The results reveal that higher levels of job satisfaction are associated with improved QoL and lower rates of absenteeism. Specifically, caregivers with higher satisfaction reported fewer sick leaves and a more favorable perception of their QoL. Conclusions: These findings underscore the need for supportive workplace policies that enhance caregiver satisfaction, ultimately contributing to both caregiver well-being and the quality of care provided.
- LearnIt: A Serious Game to Support Study Methods in Engineering EducationPublication . The successful application of those methods is directly related to the improvementof cognitive areas, such as memory, attention, and concentration in a simultaneously beneficial way. In the scope of the collaboration between a Student Support Center in a Higher Education Engineering Institution and an R&D group in Educational Technologies, an application was designed to foster both vectors, the development of cognitive capabilities and the adoption of study methods. The application integrates a serious game and a repository of contextualized educational resources. This combination motivates students to adopt these tools more regularly. This article describes the developed application and the positive results of its use with a first group of students.
- Engineering students’ perception on self-efficacy in pre and post pandemic phasePublication . Viegas, Clara; Lima, Natércia; Costa, Alexandra R.During 2020 and 2021, the world experienced a global change in everyone’s daily lives due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students were confined in their homes but, luckily, had access to online classes. This study aims to assess the changes in self-efficacy perceived by engineering students in a school in Portugal. By helping to understand how students have changed their learning capacities, developed new strategies, and/or need more (or different) support to learn, teachers can target their teaching methods accordingly and contribute to a more sustainable education. A questionnaire was constructed and validated to assess students’ perceptions before and after the associated lockdowns. Five theoretically supported factors emerged from a statistical factor analysis: Communication and Empathy; Focus and Personal Organization; Teamwork and Individual Work Capacity; Technical and Cognitive Resources Management; and Emotional Resources Management. This work shows students’ percept that they improved their teamwork and individual work capacity and their technical and cognitive resources management. In general, students seem to have been able to be more autonomous as they managed to work and develop their cognitive resources; however, their emotional state and ability to focus decreased. Perceived self-efficacy was less affected in older students than in younger ones, suggesting that this group may have adapted better to the pandemic restrictions. Students who were already at university showed less impact than those moving from high school to university. There was also a difference between those who endured these changes at only one level of education and those who endured them at both levels (high school and university), with this last group being the most negatively affected.

Nevertheless, the focus has been more on the relationship of middle leaders with their employees than on the role of the strategic leader for the performance of organizations. In this chapter, the authors focus on the importance of top leadership, trying to demonstrate its crucial contribution to organizations. They give special importance to the role of the leader in a changing context characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity – The VUCA environment. They define strategic leadership and highlight its impact on organizational results at the individual, team, and organizational levels. They end by addressing the ethical implications of strategic leadership, which has been given relatively little attention by researchers.
