- Youth generations, new technologies, and a new kind of tourism – Trends and challengesPublication . Braga, Inês; Abreu, António; P. Afonso, AnaThis investigation is based on the trilogy of Youth generations, technologies and tourism, and its objective is to carry out a theoretical reflection on the theme, bringing together scientific information from different countries, which allows for a characterization of the new trends in tourism that is increasingly manifested digitally, requiring a close intrinsic relationship with technologies and implying new tourist experiences on the part of individuals, namely the youth generation. The methodology used is a literature review covering themes on the evolution of mass tourism toward a New Tourism or Post-Tourism, the use and impact of new technologies in the context of the offer of tourist experiences, in the research and publication of information in social media by new tourists, with a focus on the Youth generations. A characterization of the generations of Millennials and Post-Millennials is made, tracing their respective profiles, taking into account their way of acting in social media in the current tourist context. The User-Generated Content (UGC) is highlighted, whose information is related to the tourism experiences lived by young people and shared by them on social networks, information, and communication channels with growing impact and alternatives to those that disseminate paid information and published on the net. In the final considerations, some of the most important conclusions of the research are taken up again. Some recommendations are reinforced in these matters collected in the research and which can serve as a reflection and alert so that the stakeholders involved in this new tourism can obtain better performance and results.

Afonso, Ana; Pérez Cota, ManuelAo longo de quase trinta nos a IHC tem vindo a integrar os objectivo da engenharia no melhoramento da usabilidade dos sistemas computacionais e das suas aplicações. A investigação ‘PAI — Projecto de Avaliação de Interfaces’ explora a avaliação da usabilidade de interfaces de sítios Web sustentada nos fundamentos da IHC. A análise realizada da história da usabilidade e da sua avaliação levou a concluir ser necessário, oportuno e pertinente a criação de um modelo, com base na metodologia do PAI capaz de sintetizar os métodos e técnicas mais relevantes existentes na literatura desta área científica da IHC. O trabalho realizado nesta investigação originou assim um metamodelo universal de avaliação da usabilidade, aplicável a qualquer interface Web (sítio Web), sendo uma proposta completa e coerente que representa um novo paradigma de avaliação da usabilidade de interfaces Web. A aplicação da metodologia desenvolvida tem cinco fases, nomeadamente a fase 1, a avaliação preliminar do grau de acessibilidade do sítio Web (funciona como um filtro permitindo detectar e eliminar os problemas mais óbvios), a fase 2, as entrevistas (funcionam como uma primeira abordagem aos utilizadores de um sítio Web), a fase 3, o teste de usabilidade (consiste na execução de um conjunto de tarefas: as mais frequentemente executadas), a fase 4, o questionário (não só mede o grau de satisfação dos utilizadores ao usarem o sítio Web mas também é um indicador da existência de problemas) e a fase 5, a avaliação heurística (avalia o grau de conformidade de um conjunto de ecrãs seleccionados, parte de um sítio Web, com directrizes de usabilidade). A investigação realizada no PAI foi validada com um estudo de caso. Foi avaliada a usabilidade da secretaria virtual de uma escola de ensino superior do Porto, com mais de dezoito mil alunos, um sítio Web dinâmico e complexo. Este estudo validou o método geral de avaliação de interfaces desenvolvido, como se verifica no extenso trabalho de campo e nos resultados e respectiva análise estatística. A investigação revelou que a extensão e nível de recursos necessários na sua aplicação completa, só o recomendam em casos que constituem uma ‘missão crítica’ onde o custo não é uma consideração primordial. Caracterizada a arquitectura do PAI e exemplificada em pormenor a sua aplicação num caso de estudo, termina-se com a consideração de vários cenários de desenvolvimentos possíveis e a clarificação dos limites e expansões do método. As considerações finais sumariam a investigação realizada quer ao nível geral conceptual quer ao nível do estudo de caso que o valida. Equacionam-se ainda trabalhos posteriores para o PAI no contexto dos modernos desenvolvimentos que a problemática da IHC tem tido nas suas recentes transformações.

Afonso, Ana; Rocha, Álvaro; Pérez Cota, ManuelThis research here described explores the first phase of a research project whose aim is to introduce a new form of collaboration and communication among the Family and School through an Electronic Booklet (EB), in Spain, in the Galician schools. The EB appears to meet the growing needs of collaboration between the school and the family, promoting the teaching learning process and educational success, supported by the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Through a questionnaire we sought to obtain the perceptions of teachers and parents regarding the adoption of an EB. Both groups stressed the importance of communication between the school and the family and expressed interest in EB, as bidirectional communication tool.

In addition, the last few years have been characterized by the application of Information Technologies, especially the Semantic Web, not only to the teaching-learning process, but also to administrative processes within learning institutions. On one hand, the aim of this study was to present a model for identifying and classifying Competencies and Learning Outcomes and, on the other hand, the computer applications of the information management model were developed, namely a relational Database and an Ontology.

Afonso, Ana; Pinto, Agostinho Sousa; Braga, Inês; Oliveira, RuiThe World Wide Web, boosted the development and exponential growth, worldwide, of numerous online businesses. Most of organizations in the developed countries are present, in some way, online. It is based on this assumption that digital accessibility plays a fundamental role in democratizing the use of online technologies for all citizens, including the most physically disabled: with motor or perceptive difficulties. A website could be considered accessible if it is also functionally usable, which means, easiness to interpret the content as well as navigating through the web pages, offering the customer a satisfying and inclusive experience. In this context, we propose to develop an accessibility assessment tool, ShoppingForAll, targeting users with a low degree of disability, in accordance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) for level A of compliance. This new tool will be applied to a restricted set of online stores, national or with an infrastructure in Portugal. The criteria used to select the websites under the study were native language and the position in the sales ranking. After analysing the results obtained, it was possible to establish a set of recommendations aimed at improving the accessibility of e-commerce websites. Our contribute aimed to promote and increase, albeit modestly, the accessibility on the Web. This tool can be used by experts in information technologies, by developers, and possibly e-commerce website managers.

Afonso, Ana; Pérez Cota, ManuelO avanço e difusão da tecnologia, em particular da Internet, obrigaram à disponibilização de informação com qualidade e facilmente acessível. Tais exigências vêm confirmar a relevância do papel da interface como elemento principal na interacção do utilizador com os sistemas de informação. É, por isso, fundamental que a interface seja fácil de usar e que vá ao encontro das expectativas e necessidades de todos os utilizadores. O desenvolvimento de interfaces que satisfaçam utilizadores com necessidades distintas, independentemente das suas capacidades motoras e perceptivas, culturais e sociais não é uma tarefa que possa se considerada simples [1]. De acordo com vários especialistas em Interacção Homem-Computador, [1], [2] e [3] as interfaces devem ser construídas respeitando os princípios de desenho centrado no utilizador, visando um elevado grau de usabilidade e em conformidade com directrizes de acessibilidade básicas. Este trabalho apresenta uma metodologia para avaliação da acessibilidade de um sítio Web, baseado num documento disponibilizado pela Web Accessibility Initiative, WAI, [4], a ser aplicada à secretaria on-line de uma escola do ensino superior.
