  • Satisfaction and loyalty evaluation towards health and wellness destination

    Nowadays, successful tourism destinations must offer diversity and new tourism products, addressing special interest niches, where it is possible to frame health and wellness tourism, with special emphasis on thermal tourism. It has been observed some changes regarding the customer characteristics, treatments, products, and services made available, as a strategy to overcome imbalances in physical and psychological well-being, diagnosed in the consumer. It is in the spas, with body and mind recovery treatments offer, complementary to the classic treatments, that individuals recover their well-being and, consequently, improve their quality of life. The quantitative research was based on a sample of 201 participants in the North and Centre of Portugal, in a pandemic context(COVID'19). The results confirmed that the socio-demographic profile of the participants influences the choice of the available services; the most valued aspects in the selection of the thermal establishment influence the degree of satisfaction regarding the trip and the thermal experience, and the intention to recommend and revisit the destination; and, Finally, overall satisfaction with the thermal destination significantly influences the loyalty to the health and wellness destination. Main contributions were identified, concerning the quality and variety of treatments, infrastructure, price, location, access and service, and the need for product design and proposals directed at identified target markets.
  • Diversity in tourism demand and the revisiting of sustainable and pilgrimage destinations: an approach to the Ways of St. James

    The way of Saint James is a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela that has seen great growth and tourist development in recent years. Allied to the marketing and tourism component, this pilgrimage is studied to understand what can still be done at the marketing level to promote the route and at the tourism level, as this is fundamental to support pilgrims, namely through sustainability, accommodation, and catering. In this sense, to design appropriate strategies for tourists and pilgrims, it is necessary to understand their motivations, experiences, and what makes them make this pilgrimage again, with revisiting being the focus of the study. In summary, evaluate the relationship between revisit intentions and motivations, satisfaction, and loyalty.
  • Avaliação da motivação, satisfação e experiência em eventos literários: festival literário “Correntes D’Escritas"

    Os eventos e festivais são importantes promotores da atividade turístico-cultural, sendo primordial a sua valorização. A presente investigação visa contribuir para um conhecimento mais aprofundado sobre as especificidades do público de Festivais Literários, enquadrados no segmento do Turismo de Eventos. Pretende averiguar a existência de um nicho de mercado de Festivais Literários, as motivações que trazem o público ao evento, como classificam a sua experiência, o grau de satisfação que experienciam com o evento, e a intenção de voltar e recomendar o evento. Foi elaborado e aplicado um inquérito por questionário a 226 participantes do festival literário “Correntes d’Escritas, 2018”. Os resultados evidenciaram a existência de um nicho de mercado no evento, caracterizando-se por ser maioritariamente feminino, com habilitações superiores, rendimentos acima da média e residente na região. O enriquecimento cultural é o motivo principal da sua deslocação. O público evidencia um elevado grau de satisfação com o evento em geral, especialmente com a organização e debates realizados, destaca a dimensão educativa da experiência e pretende voltar e recomendar o evento.
  • Fashion as an economic sustainability indicator in tourism destinations’ governance through business participation

    In the tourism sector, the hosting of events has been playing an increasingly significant role in attracting visitors and differentiating between competing destinations. Events play an important role in a destination’s marketing strategy. There are several motivational typologies that induce the growth in the number of participants in fashion events, among them getting to know designers, brands, and new collections, as well as following the trends. Professional motivation is growing as a result of participation and collaboration in the organization of the event itself, or because they intend to get to know the work and stay updated on the strategies used by partner companies and competitors in the sector, representing the place and the moment where new trends are presented for the first time and the occasion where partnerships and commercial exchanges between production, commercialization, and consumption areas take place. The industry strategy for the involvement of all stakeholders in the organization of events associated with a large producing region will emphasize the international involvement of participants, the international competitiveness of the industry, and the tourism destination. It intends to stimulate the region in the perspective of an economically sustainable model and integrate a destination governance strategy associated with this industry. This research aims, through the application of questionnaires to participants of fashion events held in the city of Porto between the months of September 2019 and February 2020, to assess the degree of participation, motivation for participation, evaluation of the experience of participation in the event, and corresponding degree of satisfaction. The main results highlight that fashion events can add value to the city of Porto and are directly related to its image and personality as a city and its active, cultured, and cosmopolitan lifestyle.
  • The destination choice by Generation Z influenced by the technology: Porto case study

    This article aims to contribute to the deepening of scientific knowledge about the specificities of the Generation Z behavior regarding the tourism sector. The objective of this research is to evaluate the destination choice by Generation Z and conclude if the reasons for the choice of destination (city of Porto - Portugal) positively influence the choice of technological resources in the pre-trip phase. To achieve the defined objectives, 400 validated questionnaires were gathered from tourist belonging to generation Z at Porto on the main streets of tourist attraction. The results obtained show, thus, globally, we can conclude that the three main reasons for the choice of destination Porto are: to know the city, previous recommendation, and the cultural offer, followed by wine and gastronomy and history and heritage. The reasons for the choice of destination Porto positively influence the choice of technological resources in the pre-trip phase for the significant relationships encountered.
  • Specificities of the public of literary festivals in the segment of cultural events

    This article aims to contribute to the deepening of scientific knowledge about the specificities of the public of literary festivals in the segment of cultural events. The objectives of this research are: Identify and ascertain how the sociodemographic characteristics of participants in literary festivals relate to their motivations with the event and verify the existence of a market niche faithful to literary events. To achieve the defined objectives, 226 validated questionnaires were gathered from participants in the literary festival "Correntes d'Escritas, 2018", held in the city of Póvoa de Varzim, between February 21 and 24, 2018. The main findings of the study confirm the hypotheses associated with the objectives presented. These finding indicate that this audience is very satisfied with the organization of the event and with the event in general, they highlight the cultural dimension of the experience and intend to return and recommend the event. The results obtained constitute an important instrument to raise awareness of the entities responsible for the organization of literary events, not only of the event "Correntes d'Escritas" but also of other similar events, for the adjustment of the design, planning and coordination of these events according to the specificities of this public, resulting in greater benefits for the regions involved.
  • Experience and satisfaction evaluation in fashion events

    Fashion events contribute to the enhancement of cities and regions as tourism destinations. The aim of this study is to understand the influence of the individual profile and characteristics of the trip in the evaluation of the experience considering the participation in fashion events and understand the influence of the experience of participation in the event, in the evaluation of the experience and the degree of satisfaction with the event. On the empirical side, using a quantitative methodology, the research presents a case study, investigating the relationship between the dimensions individual profile, characteristics of the trip, experience, current experience and satisfaction. Main findings show that Individual Profile, Characteristics of the Trip and Participation in Event positively affects the Evaluation of Experience, and Participation in the event positively affects the degree of satisfaction regarding the event. In terms of managerial implications, the authors suggest the existence of a mutual effect between the Individual Profile, the Characteristics of the Trip and the Knowledge and Participation in previous editions with the way that participants of fashion events will experience and evaluate their satisfaction regarding the event.
  • Digital technology in a smart tourist destination: the case of Porto

    Given that information and communication technologies (ICT) have become increasingly integrated into the tourism industry, this article aims to emphasize the growing importance of ICT for smart tourism destinations. As a city, Porto has been consolidating its position as a smart tourism destination by emphasizing tourists’ experiences that are evaluated through innovation, communication, and interactivity with tourists/visitors. A survey of 423 tourists visiting the city provided the data for this study. The analysis focuses on the availability of ICT in Porto and its influence on tourists’ decisions to visit the city. This information helps to determine whether the application and information available on the Internet had positively contributed to tourists’ satisfaction in their visits to Porto. In particular, this article focuses on the influence of ICT accessibility on tourists’ choices of destination, their experiences, and their satisfaction. The results obtained can serve as insights for others to understand how tourists’ behavior and experiences, their planning stages and their demand for information are affected by the availability of ICT, in the context of smart tourism destinations.
