- Avaliação das intenções comportamentais num destino de fronteira: o caso da eurocidade Chaves - VerínPublication . Liberato, Pedro; Alén, Elisa; Liberato, DáliaO presente artigo pretende enfatizar a importância das regiões transfronteiriças como destinos turísticos, em virtude da aplicação de projetos dinamizados pela iniciativa dos diferentes stakeholders, gerando oportunidades de crescimento e desenvolvimento para estes territórios, baseadas na valorização dos recursos endógenos. O objetivo principal da investigação agora apresentada foi avaliar as intenções comportamentais dos turistas na região da Eurocidade Chaves – Verín, enquadrada numa região transfronteiriça, a designada Raia Seca da fronteira luso espanhola do Norte de Portugal e Galiza. Concretamente, pretende-se determinar se o perfil individual dos visitantes e turistas ou as características da viagem influenciam as suas intenções comportamentais relativamente ao destino.
- Digital technology in a smart tourist destination: the case of PortoPublication . Liberato, Pedro; Alén, Elisa; Liberato, DáliaGiven that information and communication technologies (ICT) have become increasingly integrated into the tourism industry, this article aims to emphasize the growing importance of ICT for smart tourism destinations. As a city, Porto has been consolidating its position as a smart tourism destination by emphasizing tourists’ experiences that are evaluated through innovation, communication, and interactivity with tourists/visitors. A survey of 423 tourists visiting the city provided the data for this study. The analysis focuses on the availability of ICT in Porto and its influence on tourists’ decisions to visit the city. This information helps to determine whether the application and information available on the Internet had positively contributed to tourists’ satisfaction in their visits to Porto. In particular, this article focuses on the influence of ICT accessibility on tourists’ choices of destination, their experiences, and their satisfaction. The results obtained can serve as insights for others to understand how tourists’ behavior and experiences, their planning stages and their demand for information are affected by the availability of ICT, in the context of smart tourism destinations.
- Experience and satisfaction evaluation in fashion eventsPublication . Liberato, Dália; Mendes, Benedita; Liberato, Pedro; Alén, ElisaFashion events contribute to the enhancement of cities and regions as tourism destinations. The aim of this study is to understand the influence of the individual profile and characteristics of the trip in the evaluation of the experience considering the participation in fashion events and understand the influence of the experience of participation in the event, in the evaluation of the experience and the degree of satisfaction with the event. On the empirical side, using a quantitative methodology, the research presents a case study, investigating the relationship between the dimensions individual profile, characteristics of the trip, experience, current experience and satisfaction. Main findings show that Individual Profile, Characteristics of the Trip and Participation in Event positively affects the Evaluation of Experience, and Participation in the event positively affects the degree of satisfaction regarding the event. In terms of managerial implications, the authors suggest the existence of a mutual effect between the Individual Profile, the Characteristics of the Trip and the Knowledge and Participation in previous editions with the way that participants of fashion events will experience and evaluate their satisfaction regarding the event.
- Governance and cooperation in Euroregions: border tourism between Spain and PortugalPublication . Liberato, Dália; Alén, Elisa; Liberato, Pedro; Domínguez, TrinidadThere are several obstacles to establish tourism governance policies in a border area and to improve the conceptualization of tourism in border territories transcending the transnational level, using territorial delimitation at Euroregional level. At borders, tourism usually works as a strategic policy tool to strengthen the regional image, shape common identity narratives and facilitate interactions, becoming these regions, nowadays, challenges for the actors of the territory, representing a priority area for the application of territorial development strategies at local level and at the level of the European Union itself. A qualitative analysis was based on performed semistructured interviews with key tourism stakeholders. From the intervieweeś perspective, cooperation should be achieved through cooperation agreements between the business sector and economic agents to develop natural, cultural and heritage resources.
- North of Portugal and Galicia (Spain) as tourism destinations: residents’ evaluationPublication . Liberato, Dália; Alén, Elisa; Liberato, PedroThe dry border between the North of Portugal and Galicia presents structural, demographic and economic problems that must be overcome, but also natural, cultural and touristic resources that must be enhanced. From a more critical perspective, tourism must be discussed as an important strategic sector for the economy of Galicia-North of Portugal Euroregion and in particular, the dry borders’ economy, providing benefits, in a sustainable way. Border regions have been targeted areas for some EU-level investment interventions in order to allocate infrastructure and equipment considered key to boosting the territory, attracting investment in order to establish residents. The symbolic capital of this region lies precisely in its natural, architectural landscapes, as well as in several products in the region framed globally in endogenous resources. The aim of this research is to identify the potential for strategic cooperation between these two territories, and understand residents' perceptions about the impact of tourism, as an important economic activity, in these regions, through strategic partnerships between stakeholders and DMO’s, in the two countries, and also by valuing the border as a tourism destination, and not just as a line separating two territories and two nations.
- Smart tourism destination triggers consumer experience: the case of PortoPublication . Liberato, Pedro; Alén, Elisa; Liberato, DáliaPurpose – The purpose of this paper is to emphasize the increasing importance of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in smart tourism destinations, in their integration in the activity of the tourism companies, and in their interaction with visitors/tourists. In summary, it is intended to evaluate in the city of Porto how the use of technology before, during and after the visit influences the tourist experience. Design/methodology/approach – The authors empirically investigate the importance of using ICTs during tourism experience, assess the access/availability of ICT at the destination and its importance in tourist’s decisions. It is analyzed if the applications and/or information available on the internet are important and positively influence the tourism experience in Porto, that is, the degree of tourist satisfaction. The empirical evidence is based on a quantitative analysis, using a data set involving 423 tourists in the city of Porto. Findings – The importance of the internet access at the destination, especially in places like airports and hotels, since most tourists are primarily using their mobile devices and computers during the trip, and the existing information technologies available in the destination (internet, smartphones or other mobile devices and applications) are considered very important in explaining tourists’ experience. Originality/value – This study identifies the strengths and weaknesses of the technological strategies, providing useful information for destination management, discussing innovation in tourism, and proposing a framework that empirically evaluates how technological components used in smart tourism destinations can improve tourists’ experiences.
