- The restrictions on travel of elderly tourists and their mitigation by facilitators and negotiation strategiesPublication . Lopes, Maria Carlos; Liberato, Dália; Alén, Elisa; Liberato, PedroThe segment of the elderly population has taken on a heterogeneous character due to the various economic and social policies and reforms that have been implemented by the governments of the various countries. This is the baby-boom generation, that is, individuals who were born between 1946 and 1964, and who currently have greater purchasing power than previous generations and have a high interest in leisure moments where travel ends up having great meaning. However, about half of the population is affected by several factors, which prevent travel. In this sense, the objective of this work aims to investigate how, in the literature review, travel constraints are mitigated or eliminated through facilitators or negotiation strategies. Tourism promoters and managers, stakeholders and DMO’s, have, thus, the great challenge of mitigating, as much as possible, the travel restrictions of elderly tourists, through several strategies and tools that allow a greater participation of this segment of the population in tourism activities.

- Literary routes as a successful tourist offer in PortoPublication . Ferreira, Ana; Alén, Elisa; Liberato, PedroNowadays tourist aspires to something differentiated, personalized, focused on quality, culture, and the environment. As this tourist is a more demanding one, it is crucial to provide an innovative offer bearing in mind that this type of tourist aspires to something more specific. This is exactly the case of literary tourists. By using a literary text to invite people to visit a city, which we may call "literary invitation", we intend to provide some real and material knowledge about the city, often in the form of a route to be travelled. Tourist itineraries immerse visitors in the plot of a narrative or in the historical era it refers to and therefore, enhances the experience of a cultural visit assuming an important political and economic significance in today’s tourism destinations. Besides enhancing cultural exchange and cross-border relations, tourists mobilize large economic resources that can promote the socio-economic development of the territories. This paper intends to present an analysis of the motivational attributes of literary routes in the perception of the tourist destination Porto based on information obtained from a sample of 272 tourists/visitors in the city during the summer of 2020. The analysis of the results allows us to state that they represent a reliable basis for tourist agents interested in reevaluating the essence of tourist activity in the city, in the context of literary resources and attractions, and these motivational factors may be incorporated into marketing strategies.

- Residents’ perceptions of border regions as tourism destinations: North of Portugal and GaliciaPublication . Liberato, Dália; Alén, Elisa; Liberato, PedroBorder regions have been targeted areas for some EU-level investment interventions in order to allocate infrastructure and equipment considered key to boosting the territory, attracting investment in order to establish residents. The dry border between the North of Portugal and Galicia presents structural, demographic and economic problems that must be overcome, but also natural, cultural and touristic resources that must be enhanced. The symbolic capital of this region lies precisely in its natural, architectural landscapes, as well as in several products in the region framed globally in endogenous resources. From a more critical perspective, Saarinen (2004) argues that tourism can be one of the very few examples of potential growth for these peripheral and rural dry border regions where low population density and long distances compromise other industries development. Tourism has become an activity of building cross- border cooperation and has been able to transform the spatial organization of these regions. Tourism seems to be a very important strategic sector for the economy of Galicia-North of Portugal Eurorregion and in a particular way, the dry borders’ economy, providing benefits, sustainably. The aim of this research is to identify the potential for strategic cooperation between these two territories, and understand residents' perceptions about the impact of tourism, as an important economic activity, in these regions, through strategic partnerships between stakeholders and DMO’s, in the two countries, and also by valuing the border as a tourism destination, and not just as a line separating two territories and two nations.
