- An Analysis of the Two-Ray Propagation Model to Support Near-Surface Overwater Wireless Sensor Networks DesignPublication . Gutiérrez Gaitán, Miguel; Pinto, Luis; Santos, Pedro Miguel; Almeida, LuísIn this work, a thorough analysis based on the two-ray model in the presence of tides is performed. The study aims to provide a tool to guide the deployment of near-surface overwater wireless sensor networks, and thus improve its overall link quality regardless of the variations of the tides. We consider realistic parameters, such as the distance between the nodes and the tide-levels range taken from the mouth of the Douro river, Porto and the Seixal Bay, Lisbon. In future works, we will complement the theoretical analysis with network level simulations and an extended experimental campaign.
- An Efficient approach to Multisuperframe tuning for DSME networksPublication . Kurunathan, Harrison; Severino, Ricardo; Koubâa, AnisDeterministic Synchronous Multichannel Extension (DSME) is a prominent MAC behavior irst introduced in IEEE 802.15.4e that supports deterministic guarantees using its multisuperframe structure. DSME also facilitates techniques like multi-channel and CAP reduction that help to increase the number of available guaranteed timeslots in a network. However, no tuning of these functionalities in dynamic scenarios is supported in the standard. In this paper, we present an efective multisuperframe tuning technique that also helps to utilize CAP reduction in an efective manner improving lexibility and scalability, while guaranteeing bounded delay.
- An Experimental Localization Testbed based on UWB Channel Impulse Response MeasurementsPublication . Li, Kai; Ni, Wei; Zhang, PeiIn this paper, we demonstrate a new ultra-wideband (UWB) localization testbed, which tracks a UWB tag and estimates locations of obstacles based on channel impulse response measurements. Anchor nodes that are developed with off-the-shelf Decawave DW1000 UWB transceivers are deployed to cover the area of interest. The testbed is implemented and preliminary experiments are carried out to estimate the location of the object by analyzing channel impulse response strength of the UWB tag.
- An Intersection Management Protocol for Mixed Autonomous and Legacy VehiclesPublication . Reddy, Radha; Almeida, Luis; Tovar, EduardoAn important element in urban traffic management is the Intersection Management (IM) that deals with traffic lights signaling (either real or virtual). Intersections are vulnerable to traffic congestion and accidents. Therefore, this paper investigates a synchronous intersection management protocol for mixed autonomous and humandriven vehicles in the context of decentralized traffic management.
- Automatic Allocation of Tasks in T-Res for WSNPublication . Gaur, Shashank; Almeida, Luis; Tovar, EduardoThis paper presents a demo of an extension developed to support an existing programming abstraction for IoT: mT-Res. mT-Res is an extension of the T-Res programming abstraction, which allows users to write applications using a web framework without low level knowledge of resources. The paper describes an automated mechanism for allocate resources to such applications and adapt to changes in those resources.
- Bringing Context-awareness to wireless sensor networksPublication . Gaur, Shashank; Rangarajan, Raghuraman; Tovar, Eduardo• Programming abstraction has been a major focus of research in WSN • With IoT, heterogeneous devices with different capabilities brings in new issues. • Essential features for systems to support these changes and user to write applications are as follwoing: • Abstraction, Mobility and Modularity
- Complex Intersections with a Dedicated Road Lane per Crossing DirectionPublication . Reddy, Radha; Almeida, Luis; Santos, Pedro M.; Tovar, EduardoComplex intersections are often busier with a separate road lane per crossing direction, i.e., left, straight, and right. These intersections eliminate the diverging and merging conflicts; thus, vehicles only fall under crossing conflicts within intersections. However, the traditional way of serving vehicles from one road at a time increases traffic congestion and hinders performance. To address this issue, we extended the synchronous framework for complex intersections with a separate road lane per crossing direction, which was initially presented for single-lane and two-lane intersections in which roads are shared among vehicles with different crossing directions. We compare the performance of our synchronous framework against the traditional Round-Robin (RR) intersection management approach.
- Cooperative Key Generation For Data Dissemination in Cyber-Physical SystemsPublication . Li, Kai; Kurunathan, Harrison; Severino, Ricardo; Tovar, Eduardo; TovarSecuring wireless communication is significant for privacy and confidentiality of sensing data in CyberPhysical Systems (CPS). However, due to broadcast nature of radio channels, disseminating sensory data is vulnerable to eavesdropping and message modification. Generating secret keys by extracting the shared randomness in a wireless fading channel is a promising way to improve the communication security. In this poster, we present a novel secret key generation protocol for securing real-time data dissemination in CPS, where the sensor nodes cooperatively generate a shared key by estimating the quantized fading channel randomness. A 2- hop wireless sensor network testbed is built and preliminary experimental results show that the quantization intervals and distance between the nodes lead to a secret bit mismatch.
- Deep Learning Based Communication: an Adversarial ApproachPublication . Emami, Yousef; Taheri, RahimDeep learning based communication using autoencoder have revolutionized the design of physical layer in wireless communication. In this paper, we propose an adversarial autoencoder to mitigate vulnerability of autoencoder against adversarial attacks. Results confirm the effectiveness of adversarial training by reducing block error rate(BLER) from 90 percent to 56 percent.
