- Impact of Social Responsibility Programmes in Stakeholder Satisfaction: An Empirical Study of Portuguese Managers’ PerceptionsPublication . Fonseca, Luís; Ramos, Amílcar; Rosa, Álvaro; Braga, Ana Cristina; Sampaio, PauloThis study investigates the relationship between social responsibility programmes of organizations and stakeholder satisfaction. Based on stakeholder theory, an online survey was administered to managers of Portuguese organizations with certified management systems. The findings suggest that stakeholder satisfaction is indeed increased with a social responsibility programme, as suggested by Freeman’s stakeholder theory. The components of social responsibility programmes that we discussed in this paper comprehend, among others, the “best governance practices”, “best customers, suppliers and partners management practices” and “best social inclusion and society support and relationship practices”, and do provide a balanced and continuously satisfaction to the different sets of stakeholders as shown by our survey results.
- Integrated Versus Non-Integrated Perspectives of Auditors Concerning the New ISO 9001 RevisionPublication . Fonseca, Luís; Domingues, José Pedro; Arezes, Pedro; Sampaio, PauloThe process of integration of management systems is being unfolded by a great deal of companies nowadays. A crucial feature of it relates with the audit function and the integrated perceptions of the auditors. This issue is of utmost importance if one takes into account the remarkable effort developed by ISO in the last revisions (2015) of the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards aiming at the standards integration by adopting a common high level structure, identical core context, and common terms and common definitions. The available drafts of the new ISO 45001 standard suggest the same effort. This paper aims, within a global research study on ISO 9001:2015, to report the integrated versus non-integrated perspectives of auditors concerning the new ISO 9001 revision based on the results from a survey conducted among IRCA auditors. It is intended specifically to assess if the perceptions from the auditors holding several certifications are different of those from the auditors that hold solely the QMS certification. Results suggest that the auditors holding several certifications foreseen more benefits from this new revision, i.e., auditors with a wider integrated perspective rate systematically higher the different dimensions assessed in this survey.
- Lean and quality management integration: improvement program implementation in a service companyPublication . Leitão, Diogo; Pereira, Maria Teresa Ribeiro; Sampaio, PauloLean Thinking is an important pillar in the success of any program of continuous improvement process. Its tools are useful means in the analysis, control and organization of important data for correct decision making in organizations. This project had as main objective the design of a program of quality improvement in Eurico Ferreira, S.A., based on the evaluation of customer satisfaction and the implementation of 5S. Subsequently, we have selected which business area of the company to address. After the selection, there was an initial diagnostic procedure, identifying the various points of improvement to which some tools of Lean Thinking have been applied, in particular Value Stream Mapping and 5S methodology. With the first, we were able to map the current state of the process in which all stakeholders were represented as well as the flow of materials and information throughout the process. The 5S methodology allowed to act on the wastage, identifying and implementing various process improvements.
- Stakeholders satisfaction and sustainable successPublication . Miguel Ciravegna Fonseca, Luís; Ramos, Amilcar; Rosa, Alvaro; Braga, Ana Cristina; Sampaio, PauloThe relationship between stakeholders satisfaction and organisational sustainable growth and success is investigated focusing on the importance of a firm’s relationships with critical stakeholders that may lead to better performance, as organisations while integrating business and societal considerations create value for their stakeholders. However, it is of most importance that top management actively leads this approach and that the governance bodies of the organisations support and check that this really happens. Framed on stakeholder theory and social responsibility theory an online survey was administered to managers of Portuguese organisations with certified management systems by a leading management systems certification Portuguese body. The findings suggest that competitive position is strongly correlated with shareholders, suppliers and partners, employees and customers satisfaction, legitimating Freeman’s stakeholder theory. In an overall final remark, the importance of shareholders, partners/suppliers, employees and customers satisfaction for organisational sustainable success is highlighted in this study results.
