Ferreira, Ana; Villares, MartaPorto is internationally renowned for its hospitality. A city that knows how to welcome, a tourist destination that excels in hospitality, according to the opinion of millions of tourists who visit us every year. Tourism, on its side, has become increasingly specialised to respond to a growing demand for unique, sustainable and accessible experiences for everyone. In recent years we have been faced with the demands of different and new markets. According to a study by Booking.com, 54% of travellers in 2023 will choose to travel as a family, with the aim of reuniting the various members. This multi-generational market is very challenging as it includes different age groups in the same group with different motivations and needs, needs that can be special. In addition, physical and mental disabilities are increasingly present, such as limited or reduced mobility, visual and/or hearing impairments, learning difficulties caused by long-term illnesses, in a general way, target public with specific needs to which the tourist offer must be adapted. These new demand requirements should therefore be considered a central point in the discussion of accessible and inclusive tourism. As the hotel industry is a fundamental pillar of tourism, there is an increasing need to rethink its approach in terms of offer. In this article we will present the Intercontinental Porto - Palácio das Cardosas Hotel as an example of this new way of looking at tourist services, making a significant contribution to affirming Porto as an accessible and inclusive destination.

- Development of a mobile health app for the management of hypertension, including treatment adherence assessment, using image detection technology - inspirers-HTNPublication . Nogueira-Silva, Luís; Viera-Marques, Pedro; Valente, José; Holtkötter, Jannis; Amaral, Rita; Jácome, Cristina; Ferreira, Ana; Almeida, Rute; Almeida Fonseca, JoãoWe aim to develop a mHealth smartphone app with a novel strategy to support the management of hypertension, including the measurement of adherence to treatment, taking advantage of the widespread use of smartphones and using only their embedded sensors. We have designed and developed a cross-platform, multi-language app which allows to register a pharmacological treatment and to customize alerts for the patient to take his/her medication and to measure his/her blood pressure (BP). Moreover, the app will be able to identify the number of pills in a blister and to capture the BP values from the screen of BP measuring devices, using the smartphone's camera. Thus, the app will quantify adherence to therapy and generate automatic BP reports. Blister photos and BP values collected by the users are enhanced using standard image processing methods for contrast increase, gap filling and relevant elements location. Classification strategies allow to count the pills present in the blisters, while the Google MLKit text mining API is employed for BP values recognition. Health Level Seven International (HL7) Fast Health Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard is used for health care data modeling and exchange, promoting interoperability while guaranteeing data quality and security. Evaluation of the app's performance by real users will be presented, regarding its usability and the offline validity of the data acquisition. The user interface concept of the app has been defined and the mockups have been produced. Regarding pill counting, blisters with diverse materials and textures were considered. Different processing strategies are used depending on blisters’ characteristics, which has allowed an accuracy above 95% for most of the tested blisters. Extracting the BP measures from smartphone acquired images using the MLKIT app seems to be feasible. Further improvements and evaluations are ongoing. We will show preliminary results regarding usability and offline validity. We propose a new smartphone app that will support the management of hypertension, including an innovative image detection tool that will allow to objectively measure adherence to therapy and will facilitate the capture of BP values.
- Educational practice: the domain of Curricular Autonomy (DCA) at Fontes Pereira de Melo SchoolPublication . Ferreira, Ana; Villares, MartaThe present article revisits a discussion about the Curricular Autonomy Domain within the context of Portuguese education. Curricular Autonomy is a concept that essentially represents changes in methodology and assessment. One should question if it is a reachable practice and if schools are able to implement the necessary changes. In Portugal, the changes in education policies arose after the revision of the Basic Law of the educational system of 2009, especially through the (Decreto-Lei nº 55/2018 de 6 de julho. Diário da República nº 129 - Série I. Ministério da Educação, Lisboa), that “establishes the curriculum of basic and secondary educa tion and the guiding principles of learning assessment”. This document determines the implementation of the Curricular Autonomy Domain in schools, starting in the school year 2018–2019. However, its implementation has not been consensual, and four years later, its implementation and effectiveness in terms of learning are still questioned. Although all teachers recognize the major changes and the need to adapt teaching practices to a new generation of students, they are not always able to iden tify the best ways to meet the students’ demands in a global world where knowledge should be seen in an integrated perspective. The main goal of this work is to under stand to what extent students and teachers consider the development of teamwork projects’ determinant in the success of teaching, understanding the interdisciplinary approach as a key resource to appropriate knowledge. In fact, if interdisciplinarity is considered essential for the learning process, then project work can be an appealing tool for students, motivating them to research and questioning, essential conditions for successful learning. Thus, in a perspective of inclusion in education, we ask ourselves about the effect that the Domain of Curricular Autonomy may have on students’ learning, which activities are being introduced/implemented and what is the effectiveness/relevance that students and teachers attribute to these Domains of Curricular Autonomy (DCA). To carry out this study, a questionnaire was applied to teachers and another one to students from the 5th to 12th grade, from the elementary and secondary school Fontes Pereira de Melo, in Porto. The goal was to assess the effect that the proposed activities in the DCA have on learning and how the Domains of Curricular Autonomy are integrated in teaching practices. In order to enrich the study, one conducted a survey to understand the teachers’ position regarding the implementation of the DCA in their teaching practice.
- Information and communication technologies in creative and sustainable tourismPublication . Ferreira, Ana; Liberato, Pedro; Liberato, Dália; Rocha, ÁlvaroIn this article we intend to show the importance of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the election and diffusion of creative and sustainable tourism. Creative tourism, by focusing its action on the way of life and the identity of local communities, will be a tourism that proposes activities that are based on local identity and memory and consider the preservation of available resources. In this sense, we ask: What is the role of ICT for the valuation of creative tourism? Can ICT define the course of tourism in each territory? Firstly, we intend to clarify the pertinence of this interdisciplinary research - sustainable creative tourism and information and communication technologies. Next, we emphasize that the diffusion of information is a fundamental asset for tourism development, since the tourist value of a destination depends largely on its ability to affirm itself as a national and international brand. The methodology followed will be based on the revision of the available bibliography leading to the consolidation of the idea that ICT are an indispensable tool for the promotion of creative tourism.
- A literary event as a simulation-based activity in Higher Education Training (HET) in tourismPublication . Ferreira, Ana; Villares, MartaNowadays, in a technological era, the entire labor market has new rules, demanding new skills from workers, namely working as part of a team, being creative and adaptable to new situations and to all clients. Given these new challenges for future graduates, teachers must adapt their teaching methodologies, particularly in tourism studies, where students need to practice these skills to apply when they enter the labor market. With these premises in mind, the main aim of this article is to analyze “Heart, Brain and Stomach”, a literary dinner organized by students as a final assessment for students of two different degree courses: a postgraduate course in Literary Tourism and a degree in Restaurant and Catering Management at a Portuguese High Education Institution (HEI). To stimulate teamwork, creativity, communication and collaborative skills among students, this event combined soft skills and technical (e.g. event organization and management) skills, while helping students to broaden, rethink and redesign our gastronomic culture into new proposals for the customer, be they resident, visitor or tourist, leveraged by structured practical training and work simulation approaches that reflect professional scenarios and their future challenges. Based on literature research, observation, and content analysis (resulting from questionnaires applied to students and participants in the event), this article aims to frame the activities carried out, crossing different perspectives to establish the importance of soft skills in shaping the future careers of Hospitality, Tourism and Catering graduates. The authors will reflect on students’ overall performance and feedback as crucial components of teaching and learning experiences. Furthermore, since the event consisted of a proposal to cross two different courses, the teamwork and its consequences both on the results of the practical activity and on professional relationships in the intergenerational labor market were analyzed. This research aimed at understanding the impact of simulations on students’ meaningful learning. It is therefore hoped that this work will contribute to reflection and development of new pedagogical approaches with simulation-based activities, particularly in tourism.
