- Nonspecific low back pain, sleep and quality of life in adults — an observational studyPublication . Alves, André Joaquim da Cruz; Miranda, Leonor G.Analyze the association of non-specific low back pain and sleep quality with quality of life in adults. Cross-sectional observational analytical study. Data collection via an online questionnaire: Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire, and WHOQOL-BREF (World Health Organization Quality of Life Instrument – Abbreviated Version). Data analysis includes the student's t-test, chi-square test, and multiple linear regression (stepwise method). The sample (n = 223) consists mainly of females (76.2%), aged between 33 and 34 years. Significant differences in sleep quality were found between adults with and without nonspecific low back pain (p < 0.05). Sleep quality (p = <.001), body mass index (p = <.001), and low back pain intensity (p = 0.006) are significant predictors of quality of life (adjusted R² = 0.242). This study suggests that adults with nonspecific low back pain have worse sleep quality scores and worse quality of life scores compared to adults without nonspecific low back pain. Female gender and lower levels of education are significantly associated with nonspecific low back pain. Sleep quality, body mass index, and low back pain intensity are significant predictors of quality of life.
