Abstract(s)

The role of health professionals in promoting health literacy or health literacy limitation has been slowly explored (Nielsen-Bohlman, Panzer, & Kindig, 2004). These studies generally allow to realize that the problem of literacy in the population’s health in general and the elderly in particular, will only be increased if the need and role of both - public and professional - is assessed interdependently. In this sense it is important to understand how the professionals understand their role and their responsibilities in this matter, for, in sequence to enhance health literacy. Objectives: Identify the role of professionals in promoting literacy in the health of older people.
