Abstract(s)
Projects that provide the service of Personal Assistance for People with Disabilities are being implemented and growing in different countries. In Portugal, envisioning the unfolding of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Decree-Law nÂș 129/2017 was instituted, whose focus was to create the pilot project Support Model for Independent Living (Modelo de Apoio Ă Vida Independente, in Portuguese), in order to promote support for persons with disabilities, called DestinatĂĄrios, in different daily activities, through the provision of Personal Assistants (PA). Such professionals promote specific and individual support according to the needs and wishes listed by the DestinatĂĄrios and/or legal representatives, seeking greater independence, autonomy and quality of life. However, there are 25 behaviours defined in the document âGuidelines for the profile of competenciesâ prepared by the National Institute of Rehabilitation (INR), the projectâs manager, based on the mentioned decree-law, whose purpose is to instruct the desired profile for the PA. Since it is still a recent program and in an experimental phase, this masterâs dissertation aimed to understand the congruences and divergences between the PA themselves and the 25 behaviours relevant to their professional profile and how they feel prepared to demonstrate them in the field. The study, with a mixed approach, was carried out online via a questionnaire using the Google Forms platform, whose structure was divided into open and closed questions and originated 89 responses from PA at national level. The results point to agreements between the AP, even with the sample diversification in the demographic variables.
