Esta dissertação teve a intenção de analisar os desafios enfrentadas pelas mulheres em cargos de liderança no setor da hotelaria, com especial enfoque no seu percurso profissional, na conciliação com a esfera pessoal e nos fatores determinantes para uma liderança eficaz.
O objetivo foi conhecer os desafios a Liderança feminina no setor da Hotelaria e para esse propósito foi aplicada uma metodologia qualitativa, baseada num questionário sociodemografico e na realização de entrevistas semiestruturadas a 15 diretoras hoteleiras, de modo a obter múltiplas perspetivas sobre a problemática em estudo.
Os resultados indicam que, apesar da persistência de preconceitos de género, observa-se uma crescente aceitação das mulheres em funções de liderança. Contudo, a conciliação entre a Vida pessoal e profissional continua a ser um obstáculo predominante para alcançar cargos de liderança. Verificou-se ainda uma tendência para dissociar a liderança por gênero, valorizando características pessoais e competências individuais.
This dissertation aimed to analyse the challenges faced by women in leadership positions in the hospitality sector, with a special focus on their professional careers, work-life balance and the determining factors for effective leadership. The objective was to understand the challenges to female leadership in the hospitality sector. To achieve this purpose, a qualitative methodology was applied, based on a sociodemographic questionnaire and semi-structured interviews with 15 female hotel managers, in order to obtain multiple perspectives on the issue under study. The results indicates that, despite the persistence of gender bias, there is a growing acceptance of women in leadership roles. However, balancing personal and professional life remains a major obstacle to achieve leadership positions. There was also a tendency to dissociate leadership from gender, valuing personal characteristics and individual skills.
