O presente trabalho de projeto teve como objetivo aprofundar conhecimentos sobre o processo de dimensionamento sísmico de edifícios, com estrutura de betão armado, de acordo com os critérios definidos na norma NP EN 1998-1. Paralelamente, foram trabalhadas e desenvolvidas competências específicas de simulação numérica por elementos finitos, recorrendo a ferramentas de cálculo comerciais e levando a cabo análises elásticas lineares com coeficientes de comportamento, considerando espectros de resposta regulamentares. Após revisão bibliográfica sobre métodos de quantificação da ação sísmica e conceção de edifícios sismo resistentes, são revistos os critérios de dimensionamento constantes da norma NP EN 1998-1 (gerais e específicos para edifícios de betão armado). Segue-se um caso de estudo. O edifício escolhido é representativo da construção realizada nos países da Europa do Sul (tais como Itália, Portugal e Grécia) até ao final da década de 70. Como tal, apenas foi dimensionado para suportar ações verticais conjugadas com a ação do vento. Após determinação das características dinâmicas da estrutura original, é verificada a sua segurança sob a atuação da ação sísmica regulamentar mais elevada que pode ocorrer em Portugal Continental. Em seguida são realizados dois novos dimensionamentos: (i) de acordo com o RSA e REBAP; (ii) de acordo com a NP EN 1998-1 e NP EN 1992-1-1. No final, são comparadas as diferenças entre dimensionamentos e retiradas conclusões.
The present project work had as objective to deepen knowledge about the process of seismic design of buildings, with reinforced concrete structure, according to the criteria defined in the norm NP EN 1998-1. At the same time, specific numerical simulation skills were worked and developed, using commercial calculation tools and carrying out linear elastic analyzes with behavior factors, considering elastic response spectra. After a literature review on seismic action quantifying methods and design of earthquake resistant buildings, the design criteria of NP EN 1998-1 (general and specific for reinforced concrete buildings) are reviewed. A case study follows. The chosen building is representative of the construction carried out in the countries of Southern Europe (such as Italy, Portugal and Greece) until the end of the 70's. Therefore, it was designed only to support vertical actions combined with wind action. After determining the dynamic characteristics of the original structure, its safety is verified under the highest seismic action that can occur in Portugal. Two new designs are then performed: (i) according to RSA and REBAP; (ii) according to NP EN 1998-1 and NP EN 1992-1-1. In the end, the differences between design are compared and conclusions are subsequently drawn.
