Abstract(s)
The text, the references, the fusion and reinterpretation of the materials, even the making of the wearable structures and the performance, were all supported by a process of research and creation that constitute the whole of this Final Work. The study focuses on different textile morphologies, hoping to emphasise aesthetic meaning in the relation between matter and tactile perception. The textile experiments enabled a certain vocabulary to be incorporated, with relevant gestures, in the consolidation of the performance and the wearable object's speech. Approaching the theatrics of a ritual, two fundamental vectors helped this project take shape: the series of paintings entitled Vivian Girls (1984) by Paula Rego, by their intimacy with bestial tales; and the tale A Bao A Qu (1967) by Jorge Luís Borges, which inspired the costume's sensory communication with the spectator. Thought coordinates were established through the analysis and interpretation of this tale, allowing analogies to be made between the costumes and the different states of the character. Therefore, the work is divided in two moments: a theoretical-practical research exploring the different ways of working the volumetry of textile surfaces and the preparation of a wardrobe proposal materialised in the form of a stage costume.
