Abstract(s)
Se é verdade que no século XVIII começa a florescer uma intensa atividade
literária ligada à viagem e ao seu relato, será no século seguinte que esta atividade atingirá
o seu apogeu, mormente no que concerne à viagem a Espanha. Estes relatos
oitocentistas são muito diferentes dos que haviam sido redigidos um século antes; uma
profunda transformação havia ocorrido nas estruturas sociais e económicas, que
explicaria que, mesmo os relatos de viagem, se alterem em conteúdo, mas também em
forma. A predisposição e os objetivos que os viajantes abraçam vão-se alterando à
medida que a viagem se vai entendendo mais como um exercício para a alma e o ânimo
do que como um exercício para a razão. A viagem romântica sucederá, então, à viagem
ilustrada, alterando os seus propósitos, mas também a sua forma de sentir a viagem.
Este artigo pretende refletir sobre estas alterações que plasmariam, quanto a nós, num
estilo novo, numa nova abordagem da paisagem e num sobrelevar da importância do
pitoresco, do exotismo e dos lugares literários.
If it is true that in the eighteenth century begins to bloom an intense literary activity related to travel, it will be in the next century that this activity will reach its peak, especially regarding the travels to Spain. Romantic travel books are very different from those published in the eighteenth century; a profound transformation took place in social and economic infrastructures, which would explain that even travel narratives suffered a change. The predisposition and objectives that travelers embrace changed, as the trip will be understood more as an exercise for the soul and spirit than as an exercise for the reason. Romantic travel books will then replace Grand Tour and enlightenment travel books. This article aims to reflect on these changes which have shaped, in our view, a new style, a new approach to landscape and outweigh the importance of picturesque, exotic and literary places.
