Abstract(s)
Os Bombeiros estão expostos frequentemente a vários poluentes prejudicando gravemente a
sua saúde respiratória.
Foi realizado um estudo observacional e transversal, com o objectivo de caracterizar a função
pulmonar dos bombeiros da região norte de Portugal. A amostra foi constituída por 44
Bombeiros de Valongo e Rebordosa. Todos os participantes preencheram um questionário,
executaram espirometrias e mediram o monóxido de carbono.
Verificou-se uma elevada prevalência de hábitos tabágicos, bem como da carga tabágica. A
percentagem de alterações espirométricas foi de 38,6% e a utilização de protecção respiratória
revelou-se praticamente inexistente nos incêndios florestais.
The firefighters are often exposed to several pollutants affecting respiratory health very badly. It was conducted an observational and cross sectional study to characterize firefighters´ respiratory function. This sample had 44 firefighters who worked in Valongo and Rebordosa fire stations. In this study, all the participants were submitted to questionnaires, spirometries and measurements of carbon monoxide. Through the results analysis, it was observed that exist a high prevalence of smoking habits as well as a high tobacco intake. Spirometric changes had a percentage of 38,6% and the use of respiratory protection was rare in forest fires.
