Abstract(s)
The aim of this research project was to explore experiences of teaching and learning the recorder in the context of the 2nd cycle of Basic Education, from the perspective of the pupils. The academic literature demonstrates the importance of instrumental teaching/learning within primary music education, and the dynamics of group instrumental teaching/learning. Due to its low cost and easy transportation, the recorder is considered an accessible instrument for children completing the 2nd cycle of Basic Education. However, more recent studies relating to recorder teaching and learning in the 2nd cycle of Basic Education examined the perspectives of the teachers. Thus, this project focused on the experiences of the pupils, through interviews. The results demonstrate that the pupils enjoy playing the recorder, and the importance of group music-making with this age group
