Abstract(s)
música no desenvolvimento das seguintes atividades: acolhimento e fecho da aula;
motivação; exploração de vocabulário e expressões; controlo comportamental; lengalengas e
storytelling.
The present study “The impact of Music in the Teaching of English in the Elementary School” was carried out with the purpose of the final report of the master’s degree. This study is based on several scholars who defend that Music is an important tool in the integral development of the child, since Music accompanies the human being from his birth to his last breath. In the educational context, the role of music is undeniable in view of the multiple benefits it has. The use of music in a didactic context is a useful and effective strategy that allows the teacher to get closer to the students, and my study focuses on the use of music in the development of the following activities: reception and closing of the class; motivation; exploration of vocabulary and expressions; behavioral control; spiels and storytelling. The empirical study that was carried out in Supervised Teaching Practice (STP) is based on a study of an ethnographic nature and with outlines of action-research. First, we developed a documentary analysis of plans, which we had the opportunity to implement in our internship context. We also created a questionnaire and applied it to English teachers in the 1st Cycle of Basic Education. Finally, we also collect field notes on students' behaviors during the application of song-based activities. With the results obtained, we were able to get a well-founded perception in what concerns the importance of music in a didactic context, as it was possible to verify the areas that influences and how it helps a student’s development.
