The aim of this project is to study, in detail, part of a municipal road, āEstrada Municipal 607ā, located in the municipality of Valongo, by indicating its degradation condition and defining the best solution for its rehabilitation in terms of pavement. This pavement includes three roads that belong to EM 607- Rua de Vilar, Rua de Cabeda and Rua D. Pedro IV. This project can be divided into two different parts: the first part is in the theoretical framework where we have a historical approach from the development of road pavement up to the methods and pavement we have nowadays and the second part refers to the practical work, where an analysis of the pavement is done and rehabilitation solutions are presented, as well as their extension. We started studying the pavement by analysing the current problems and defining its state of degradation. It was concluded that it is a severely degraded pavement, which includes parts where the level of degradation is extremely high, originating discomfort in the drivers that use it. A study analysing the level of traffic was carried out and it indicated that this pavement is daily used by many trucks and maybe this pavement is not adequate for it. The removalof the ācarotesā(part of the pavement) confirmed this theory because the thicknesses of the bituminous layers proved to be insufficient for the current flow of traffic. The rehabilitations solutions include several solutions for different situations, offering the people in charge of āCĆ¢mara Municipal de Valongoā the possibility to choose the best solution for them. So, they were given three rehabilitation solutions for different resistant capacities and for different periods of durability of the pavement. The first solution is to remove the present pavement and place a new structure with three bituminous layers, dimensioned for the current flow of traffic current. The pavement will last twenty years, however this solution is more expensive. The second solution is to place two bituminous layers after only removing the bituminous layers and maintaining the sub-base layer. With this solution the pavement will last eight years. The third solution, where the pavement will last five years, means removing one track of the pavement, using the rest. In the removed track of pavement we would place a new pavement structure dimensioned in the second solution. Finally, the transversal and longitudinal drainage system was dimensioned, indicating the water lines and their hydrographic basin. The current gutters and hydraulic passages aren't dimensioned for the pluvial drain that the pavement supports. The gutters are very small and in some cases they are degraded or need urgent cleaning.
