Abstract(s)
As part of the Master´s Degree in Music Teaching at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo and the Escola Superior de Educação, both part of the Politécnico do Porto, this internship Report was drawn up with the aim of reflecting on the work carried out during the 2024/2025 academic year. The supervised teaching practice took place at the Porto Conservatory of Music, involving tuba/euphonium students at beginner and secondary school levels, as well as the Basic School Ensemble Class. The first and second parts of this report are dedicated to characterizing the Porto Conservatory of Music and describing the activities carried out as part of the Supervised Teaching Practice. The third part covers the research project, entitled “The impact of play-along on the teaching and learning of the tuba”, whose main objective is to analyze the impact of the play-along on the teaching and learning of the tuba, exploring how this resource can influence the technical and artistic development of students, with special attention to pedagogical practice and the development of student autonomy. In this way, the following questions emerged during the course of this research: (1) What contribution can the play-along make to the technical and musical development of the tuba students? (2) Can this resource complement the pedagogical practice of the tuba and promote autonomy in the students? (3) Can the play-along be an efficient instrument for including students with different learning rhythms in tuba teaching? Consequently, a questionnaire was sent to tuba and euphonium teachers, as well as to the students under study. The results slow that this resource makes a direct contribution to both to technical and expressive development and expressive development and to promoting students' autonomy and motivation.
