Abstract(s)
The automotive industry presents itself as a major sector of the worldwide economy. In fact, the convenience that the automobiles have brought, has led to the necessity of its mass production and, consequently, a significant raise in the production’s demands. The tire manufacturing is not an exception and this part of the industry is increasingly demanding and competitive. The optimization is a key-factor in the automotive industry, as this insures the quality of the product and the lowest production cost. Moreover, increasing simultaneously production capacity and quality requirements implies a major effort from companies, either at organizational level, either at technological level. It is in this philosophy that the current master thesis is contextualized: due to the need of increasing the tire production, the company Continental Mabor – Indústria de Pneus S.A. wants to purchase new curing presses, which implies the project of a new press channel with all the technology associated, later designated as Channel 6B. The project of a new curing presses channel requires the integration of various areas of expertise, so it is imperative to integrate all the project’s elements into one single layout. This aims to optimize the channel’s operation and to ensure the viability of the assembling operation. The proposed challenge implied an analysis to all the elements regarding the 6B channel and the first layout’s sketch allowed me to spot the main assembly constraints. Developing this project also demanded an analysis to the previous channels, already installed, to determine the errors that were committed in previous constructions. The result of this thesis allowed to evaluate the on-going projects, and to check if they were according with the client requirements. Therefore, it was possible to foresee errors in the construction of the channel 6B, optimize its assembly process and minimize the time needed between the installation decision and the beginning of production.
