Abstract(s)
This report describes the internship completed at the Floret Arquitetura studio as part of the Master's in Product Design at the Escola Superior de Media Artes e Design. This document was prepared under the guidance of Professor Pedro Sousa, a professor at ESMAD, and with the mentorship of architect Adriana Floret, from the host institution. Collaboration with the team and active involvement in the studio's projects proved crucial for the consolidation of technical and practical skills. The objective of the internship was to apply academic knowledge in a professional context, understanding the role and contribution of the product designer in an architecture studio. The report sought to answer the question: "Can a product designer contribute significantly to an architecture studio?" The report's methodology combined professional practice with critical reflection, through participation in projects such as Cedofeita, 1872 River House, and Mexilhoeira Grande, and collaboration with the team. The results validated the thesis that product design is a strategic differentiator for architecture, playing a decisive role in optimizing spaces, developing customized solutions, and improving the visual communication of projects. The experience demonstrated that the ability to solve problems at an object level contributes to the functionality and coherence of larger projects. In conclusion, the internship experience solidified my perspective on the role of a designer in the professional world, connecting theory to practice, and validated the importance of collaboration between the two fields.
