Abstract(s)
The present thesis is based in a company of the energy sector, specifically in the equipment of renewable energy conversion, within the scope of the Master of Industrial Management and Engineering, of the School of engineering of Polytechnic of Porto. The main objective of the case study was building a proposal of an assembly line for photovoltaic inverters. This proposal is due to the increase of the demand for this type of equipment. To achieve this goal, the following requirements must be fulfilled: takt time should be eight working hours, the assembly line must have a maximum occupation space of 255 m2 , and has to join all the necessary assembly stations to the line, as well as the logistic supply chain. The applied methodology to solve the problem was the application of the Lean philosophy, using tools such as: assembly line balancing, production control through the Kanban system, and the application of the standard work. It was possible to reach a solution for the proposed problem. After balancing, by type of tasks and by workstation, it was verified the requirement to create five jobs, plus a preassembly station. In some cases, two workers are required at the same station. It was also necessary to create a list of all the material / parts that would be used in each station. After this identification, it was possible to develop the production control model based on the Kanban system. Finally, one of the most important topics developed in this study consists of performing work instructions that will provide a more efficient work by the employees, preventing failures and increasing the production quality of the photovoltaic inverters. As result of this study, it was possible to define and detail the assembly line of photovoltaic inverters according to the requirements, which is in the construction stage at the time of writing this thesis.
