Abstract(s)
A permanência decorre no Lugar do Desenho - Fundação Júlio Resende entre fevereiro e abril, sob a orientação do Prof. Eugénio Pinto Barbosa.
The aim of this internship project is to create a route of public art works in the metropolitan area of the city of Porto. It was based at the Lugar do Desenho - Júlio Resende Foundation and ran from February to April, under the guidance of Prof. Eugénio Pinto Barbosa. The work begins with the life of Júlio Resende: his career as a student, teacher, painter and muralist. From a very young age he sought to discover the artistic works of various painters which caused him to travel widely. Having gained this knowledge, he in turn, has influenced the generations that followed. Throughout this biographical study of the artist, an on-site investigation of his public work has been developed. The concepts of drawing and public art are approached in a historical perspective while their visions on the themes are exposed. One of the objectives was to integrate the records of the painter’s public works in order to create a single catalogue, describing the corpus as a whole by focusing on details of each work including its title, place, dates of production and exhibition, who commissioned it and a reference to its iconography. Fundamentally, this is a study of the public work of Resende in his native city of Porto, and is an attempt to document each piece in as much detail as possible. The analysis included visits in loco to the places where they are exhibited so as to have direct contact with the painting, make a photographic record and check this against existing data. Following this, a route has been created based on these findings. The project brings to fruition the results of our research by providing a route of art works whilst providing the necessary background information about them. One of our main objectives has been to increase public awareness of the work of Júlio Resende, to make more widely known his legacy of public, permanently situated art works in the metropolitan area of Porto.
