Abstract(s)
The purpose of this dissertation is to deepen the relation between Intersemiotic Translation and Ekphrais, by menas of the constrastative analysis between "The Persistence of Memory" by Salvador Dalí and selected poems as a transmuted and intersemiotic object representative of the work under analysis. To this end, theories of Intersemiotic Translation and Ekphrasis have been studied in order to provide the theoretical framework necessary to understand the study problem. Next, being the pictorial work authored by Salvador Dalí, the life and work of the artist, as well as his influences and inspirations, were scrutinized in order to present the reader with a brief clarification about the creative process of the artist. Subsequently, the work "The Persistence of Memory" is deconstructed along with its symbolic analysis starting from a personal point of view. To conclude, a contrastive analysis is performed between "The Persistence of Memory" and a selection of poems taken from the blogspot social network, as objects resulting from the intersemiotic process of transmutation representative of the selected case-studies. With this study I intend to conclude that there is an intrinsic relationship between the concepts of Intersemiotic Translation and Ekphrasis, more precisely in what concerns the transcription of objects of distinct sign systems, namely between the pictorial and the verbal ones. These concepts which applicability is visible in the presented case study, demonstrating that this is a process of artistic creation innate to the Human Being.
