- North of Portugal and Galicia (Spain) as tourism destinations: residents’ evaluationPublication . Liberato, Dália; Alén, Elisa; Liberato, PedroThe dry border between the North of Portugal and Galicia presents structural, demographic and economic problems that must be overcome, but also natural, cultural and touristic resources that must be enhanced. From a more critical perspective, tourism must be discussed as an important strategic sector for the economy of Galicia-North of Portugal Euroregion and in particular, the dry borders’ economy, providing benefits, in a sustainable way. Border regions have been targeted areas for some EU-level investment interventions in order to allocate infrastructure and equipment considered key to boosting the territory, attracting investment in order to establish residents. The symbolic capital of this region lies precisely in its natural, architectural landscapes, as well as in several products in the region framed globally in endogenous resources. The aim of this research is to identify the potential for strategic cooperation between these two territories, and understand residents' perceptions about the impact of tourism, as an important economic activity, in these regions, through strategic partnerships between stakeholders and DMO’s, in the two countries, and also by valuing the border as a tourism destination, and not just as a line separating two territories and two nations.
- Residents’ perceptions of border regions as tourism destinations: North of Portugal and GaliciaPublication . Liberato, Dália; Alén, Elisa; Liberato, PedroBorder regions have been targeted areas for some EU-level investment interventions in order to allocate infrastructure and equipment considered key to boosting the territory, attracting investment in order to establish residents. The dry border between the North of Portugal and Galicia presents structural, demographic and economic problems that must be overcome, but also natural, cultural and touristic resources that must be enhanced. The symbolic capital of this region lies precisely in its natural, architectural landscapes, as well as in several products in the region framed globally in endogenous resources. From a more critical perspective, Saarinen (2004) argues that tourism can be one of the very few examples of potential growth for these peripheral and rural dry border regions where low population density and long distances compromise other industries development. Tourism has become an activity of building cross- border cooperation and has been able to transform the spatial organization of these regions. Tourism seems to be a very important strategic sector for the economy of Galicia-North of Portugal Eurorregion and in a particular way, the dry borders’ economy, providing benefits, sustainably.
- Food media experience and its impact on tourism destinations: the Chef’s Table affairPublication . Liberato, Pedro; Mendes, Teresa; Barreira, Hugo; Liberato, DáliaThis article aims to question the importance of food media experiences of a tourist’s destination (TD) branding, associated with luxury gastronomy and celebrity chefs. To this end, a literature review was made, to evaluate the role of food in the tourist’s relationship with TD’s, as well as about the role, celebrity chefs and luxury gastronomy experience play, in the tourism experience. The reviewed scientific production was confronted with a case study, the Chef’s Table (CT) series, created by David Gelb for the digital platform Netflix. Its analysis, through a methodology designed to extract information from moving image [1] allowed to understand a clear intention to create a media experience of great quality, of luxury and inaccessible food experience. This was possible through image and sound, arranged in a way to exalt the celebrity chefs’ status, thus conveying the viewers’ desire to experience that chefs’ food, that TD’s food and the possibility to socialize with that chef. This acts in addition with the use of plating arrangements, created by chefs, inspired by compositional framings of the visual arts, enhancing the visual characteristics of food, something we were able to demonstrate in this study. Finally, we highlight the importance of carrying out future studies concerning tourists’ food media attractiveness and food media experiences, thought what we believe to be a turning point since the release of CT, in a TD’s digital branding.

- WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal fostering tourism developmentPublication . Liberato, Dália; Costa, Elga; Ferraz, André; Liberato, Pedro; Ribeiro, JoaquimEvents influence the destinations that host them. It was therefore considered interesting to analyze the influence of the Portuguese Rally sports’ event at Porto. This research aims at evaluating the role of the Rally of Portugal in Porto as a tourism destination. It aims to identify the stakeholders’ opinion regarding the impact of the Rally of Portugal on tourism demand in the city of Porto, to evaluate the impact of the Rally of Portugal in Porto as a destination, to identify the conditioning components of the realization of the Rally of Portugal, and to perceive strategies to be applied in future editions, in less secure contexts. A qualitative methodology was used for data collection, through the convenience sampling method, according to the availability of the participants. Individual semi-structured online interviews using the Zoom platform were applied to event organizers, a former pilot, and a pilot of the event. It was verified that the Porto Street Stage, stage of the Rally of Portugal that takes place in the city of Porto, presents many positive impacts for the destination, which in the perspective of the organization include the international projection of the city of Porto (through the presence of the specialized international press), with passage of the circuit by the main urban tourism resources, increase of income, complementary social programs to the event, and pride of the resident community, regarding the reception of the event. From this perspective, the fact that the event was not held in 2020 due to the SARS-CoV-2 virus was significantly reflected in the absence of revenue at the destination, with a negative impact in organizational terms, given the advanced state of this process when the event was canceled, in particular the stages of route definition, budgeting, and communication/dissemination, with the involvement of specialized teams.

Ferreira, Ana; Alén, Elisa; Liberato, Dália; Liberato, PedroIn 2020, the world faced an unimaginable pandemic that has caused devastation and suffering all over the world, affecting the global economy and imposing the suspension of almost all economic activities including tourism. Many studies evaluating the effects of the pandemic on tourism have emerged since then, but with this work we want to analyze the possibilities that became clear for a destination like Porto, in which the tourist flow had been experiencing a growing trend in a destination consecutively considered the best European destination. Literary itineraries serve as a starting point for the discussion about the possibility of inviting to Porto through literature. To invite, means to attract and, for such, we will show the importance of a literary tourism offer in the Porto destination brand. To evaluate the impact of the itineraries as proposals of literary tourism, we surveyed a sample of national and foreign tourists/visitors, who allowed us to ascertain the importance of tourist itineraries as an enhancing offer of the tourist activity in the city of Porto.
