- An algorithm of a costing system for electroplatingPublication . Pires, António; Ferreira, Fábio; Ávila, Paulo; Mota, AlziraBusinesses are increasingly competitive and rigorous and it is essential the existence of a strong, effective and realistic costing system. Decisions taken on the basis of the costing are very important, they can make the difference between success and failure of the organization. This paper explains the construction of an initial algorithm that aims to calculate the costs associated with electroplating of metal articles, in a specific company. This work can act as a possible guide for the construction of the costing system algorithms in this type of industry.
- An analysis about the resources selection process in agile/virtual enterprisesPublication . Pires, António; Putnik, Goran; Ávila, PauloWe intend in the context of this work, to do an analysis on studies, literary revisions and mainly on existent models, in the universe of virtual enterprises resources selection, in order to allow us to put on perspective, in a sustainable way, new slopes to be incorporated that contributes to an improvement of the whole global process. This analysis for the A/VE was focused in several areas and basic slopes for the whole global process of the problem in question, namely in terms of the pre-selection phases and requisites; selection phases, requisites and methods; mathematical models, used tools and other important areas. There were incorporated the decision process of create an A/VE project and the requisites of the process principal phases. We approach the essential aspects for the work that is intended to develop, such as the integration of the existent models with the tasks plan (PT) of the product, namely if there are contemplated the eformulation and evaluation of the PT, and other important characteristics such as the weighting of resources and the incorporation of the value concept in the existent models, being that in our opinion an integration of a methodology of the type of Value Analysis will be able to incorporate surplus values in all this process. Conclusions were withdrawn on the whole global process, pointing to gaps and limitations and trying to do an approach which allows to sinthetize and put in perspective an efficient analysis of the whole extent of the problem in question.
- An Approach About the Value Analysis MethodologyPublication . Pires, António; Ávila, PauloThe markets globalization requires enterprises to continually investing in innovation, competitiveness and excellence. It is important to create a value culture in organizations, through methods such as Value Analysis (VA). We pretend to enhance the relevance of the value concept and the creation of a value culture in the organizations, in order to foment and increment their success. In this paper we intend to provide a better knowledge of value analysis and suggest possible ways of its application. These allow us to put on perspective in a sustainable way new slopes to be incorporated that contributes to increase surplus values in the enterprises.
- An Evolutionary Based Algorithm for Resources System Selection Problem in Agile/Virtual EnterprisesPublication . Ávila, Paulo; Pires, António; Madureira, Ana MariaThe problem of resources systems selection takes an important role in Agile/Virtual Enterprises (A/VE) integration. However, the resources systems selection problem is difficult to solve in A/VE because: it can be of exponential complexity resolution; it can be a multi criteria problem; and because there are different types of A/V Es with different requisites that have originated the development of a specific resources selection model for each one of them. In this work we have made some progress in order to identify the principal gaps to be solved. This paper will show one of those gaps in the algorithms area to be applied for its resolution. In attention to that gaps we address the necessity to develop new algorithms and with more information disposal, for its selection by the Broker. In this paper we propose a genetic algorithm to deal with a specific case of resources system selection problem when the space solution dimension is high.
- Application of Functional Analysis in a Product of the Furniture Industry: BookcasePublication . Pires, António; Caldeira, Rita; Ávila, PauloThe value analysis methodology uses a structured and methodical job plan contemplating several steps to assure the success in their application. The most known and distinctive phase is functional analysis, nowadays an autonomous tool of value analysis. In order to characterize the customer’s needs in a clear language and to quantify the value of a product (a bookcase) of the furniture industry, a functional analysis study was developed. With this functional analysis it is intended to describe the functions that the product performs, provide a better knowledge of the product, to evaluate the degree of satisfaction of the product through its functional performance and facilitate the search for alternative solutions.
- Broker and Market of Resources as Organizational Mechanisms for Sustainability of Resources Selection Processes In Agile / Virtual EnterprisesPublication . Ávila, Paulo; Putnik, Goran; Cunha, Maria; Pires, AntónioOur Agile / Virtual Enterprises (A/V E) model, it is associated with the creation of temporary net of several physical organizations (or resources), with the intention to develop and produce one or more products/services, in the quantity and quality desirable, answering rapidly to a market solicitation. Our model has to satisfy four functional requirements: virtuality, distributivity, integrability and agility. The main mechanisms, or tools, for assuring satisfaction and implementation of these requirements, by the Virtual Enterprises Architecture Reference Model (BM_VEARM), are the Broker, the Market of Resources and the virtuality (as the specific organization architectural, or structural, pattern). In this paper, Broker and Market of Resources, and their roles and relationship within the process of resources selection, as one of the main processes of the A/V E as well as one of the “agility” processes, are considered. Both of them, Broker and Market of Resources, are independent physical entities, with own juridical identification, that inter-working between them and the Principal (the mentor of a business opportunity), could origin an A/V E creation. We will show in this article the main functions and its organizational position, associated to the triple Broker – Resources Market – Principal, for the A/V E configuration and operation. For the resources system selection those functions will be more detailed explained and identified its tools or type of tools, and its desired performance to assure the A /V E integrability and agility. One of these kinds of tools, are expected to be quality assurance tools, namely the value analyses.
- Design of a Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process – case studyPublication . Ávila, Paulo; Lima, Daniela; Moreira, Dália; Pires, António; Bastos, JoãoNowadays, companies are facing a constant need to develop and increase coordination between operational functions to respond rapidly and accurately to customer requests. Linked with this need, an increasing number of practitioners are resorting to an established and integrated business management methodology, the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP). The concept of S&OP has gained increased recognition over the years by several authors and companies. This project describes the S&OP implementation in Sogrape Vinhos (wines) S.A., a Portuguese wine producer and distributer. The company was confronted with low accuracy in the establishing the forecast demand plans, especially on a long-term horizon. In order to increase the demand plans accuracy, the company started a S&OP implementation program. This paper describes the company’s current planning process, explains the S&OP’s implementation model presenting the selected parameters adequate to the company’s context, and finally, evaluate the expected outcomes of this project. Preliminary results from the S&OP implementation project at Sogrape indicate significant savings at the operational level and greater effectiveness in developing the company’s demand plans.
- Domain of applicability of Value Analysis approach in the pre-selection of resourcesPublication . Pires, António; Putnik, Goran; Ávila, PauloFor the project of an Agile/Virtual Enterprise (A/V E) the resources selection is a key factor. The output of the selection process should be prepared to guarantee quality, efficiency and cost-attractiveness, in order to ensure the agility and integrability of the A/V E. Despite the potential of Value Analysis (VA), none of the resources selection models found in the literature incorporates the VA integration. The main objective is to quantify the selection process performance with VA integrated into the pre-selection of resources in accordance with the developed model. The paper presents through the simulation results analysis, some of the benefits of VA application: greater applicability domain for candidate resources and number of tasks; and reduction of the selection time.
- Framework for a risk assessment model to apply in Virtual / Collaborative EnterprisesPublication . Ávila, Paulo; Mota, Alzira; Bastos, João; Patrício, Leonel; Pires, António; Castro, Helio; Cruz-Cunha, Maria Manuela; Varela, LeonildeRisk assessment is a theme of large spectrum applied in different fields. In the context of Virtual / Collaborative Enterprises there are several risks whose assessment should be aware to avoid undesirable consequences either for entire networked or for a partner in particular. The objective of this work is centered on the creation of a framework / guidelines to serve as a basis for the creation of a better risk assessment model for Virtual / Collaborative Enterprises. This work analyzed the few models available in the literature and identified some gaps that were used to purpose complementary guidelines for the design and / or improve the future risk assessment models. The pointed guidelines covered three important topics: risk factors; assessment methods; and the impact in different life cycle phases of a Virtual / Collaborative Enterprise. Considering the results of the work it is our conviction that there is space to improve the research in this field and a more robust and flexible risk assessment model should be developed.
- Resources selection for agile-ivirtual enterprises: part i - model for value analysis integrationPublication . Pires, António; Putnik, Goran; Ávila, PauloThe markets globalization requires companies to continually invest in innovation, competitiveness and excellence. It is important to create a value culture in companies, through methods such as Value Analysis (VA). Nowadays a product is often produced with contributions from several companies and the concept of Agile/Virtual Enterprises (A/V E) emerged and developed. In this work, we propose an activity model of VA integration in the resources pre-selection process for AN E. It was made a literary revision of the existent models of resources selection in AN E in order to identify the main limitations and gaps of the process and assess the relevance of our work. We built the VA integration activity model and defined the VA stages to incorporate in the pre-selection process. An integration of a methodology of the type of VA will be able to incorporate surplus value in this process and leads to a better dynamic organizational integration. The VA integration brings a systematic and organized process in order to guarantee a higher value and more confidence in the resources system, contributing to a more sustainable configuration process of the AN E.
