Abstract(s)
O presente ensaio tem como objetivo a reflexão do ofício da direção de arte no
cinema, completo com uma análise do seu papel nas diferentes fases da produção
cinematográfica.
Neste contexto, o desenvolvimento teórico do trabalho parte de um destaque
dos conceitos inerentes à direção de arte, desde definições do cargo e das suas funções
como um estudo do uso da cor pelos cineastas. Foram também exploradas noções
referentes às principais áreas em que um diretor de arte opera, nomeadamente a
construção do figurino e a composição do cenário, e a forma como estas influenciam
cada obra.
A metodologia utilizada para a investigação residiu principalmente na revisão
bibliográfica relacionada com a temática em estudo. A aplicação dos conceitos teóricos
é posteriormente aplicada no trabalho prático. Seguidamente, far-se-á uma
contextualização da realização da curta-metragem de ficção As Nossas Feridas (2023),
onde o estudante assumiu o cargo de diretor de arte.
O resultado final conclui a importância do papel da direção de arte na
construção de personagens e na edificação do mundo visual do filme, bem como a
pertinência da comunicação e harmonia entre a equipa criativa.
The current essay’s primary goal is to reflect on the work of art direction in cinema, complete with an analysis of its role during the different phases of film production. On this basis, the theorical development of the essay derives from a focus on the concepts inherent to art direction, from descriptions of the role and its tasks, as well as a study of the use of colour by filmmakers. Notions referring to the main areas of an art director’s operation were also explored, namely the construction of the wardrobe and the composition of the set, and the way these influence each work. The methodology used for the investigation mainly consisted of a bibliographical revision related to the theme of the study. The application of these theorical concepts is further executed in the practical work. Afterwards, there will be a contextualization of the making of the fiction short film As Nossas Feridas (2023), where the student took on the role of art director. The end result concludes the importance of the role of art direction on constructing each character and building the visual world of the film, as well as the relevance of communication and harmony among the creative team.
