Abstract(s)
This work is part of the frequency of the Masters Programme in Music Teaching, Jazz – Piano variant, in two institutions of the Instituto Politécnico do Porto – ESMAE and ESE – and intends to be an auxiliary document for the pedagogical practice of jazz piano in the context of professional education. The object of study in this monograph arose from the need identified by the researcher to provide and synthesize information - conceptual and technical that is seen as a gap in the admission of most students to professional jazz teaching - and to be able to contribute with a document that supports the didactics, but also is a starting point for deepening and discussing this matter between professors and institutions. It begins with a brief contextualization of the institutions where class observation took place, followed by a chapter on supervised teaching practice – referring to instrument individual lessons and combo lessons; the third chapter presents the research project, where reflections on teaching strategies are intensified and practices and exercises, that aim to respond to the identified problem, are proposed.
