Abstract(s)
atividades; aspetos valorizados nas atividades; redes de contato social;
necessidades de suporte e perspetivas futuras. As ideias/conceitos associados à
present study aims to describe a program to support the transition to the employment of young people with intellectual disabilities, seeking to explore, based on their own perspective, factors of activities and contexts that define the most valued transition experiences. An exploratory study was developed with the participation of 5 young people with intellectual disabilities who were involved in different activities promoted by the project. Using the photovoice method, each participant photographed aspects that could portray one or more activities and what satisfied them the most. These photographic records were then used to guide 9 focus group sessions; describing the context and the activity of each photography, evoking aspects or episodes that portray good experiences. The contents of the focus group were transcribed and subject to analysis of content, whose categorization was organized around 5 themes: the nature of activities; the valued aspects in activities; social contact networks; support needs and future perspectives. The ideas/concepts associated to the description of the valued elements in the transition experiences included: the Sense of competence and achievement (sense of knowing how to do and learn and to do what they love the most); the Cooperation and turnover – dynamics of mutual assistance and the experimentation of different tasks/actions of the activity; the Friendship – the importance of relationships and the sense of identity: and the Connection to the community.
