Abstract(s)
In the scope of this dissertation, carried out in the company Tintas 2000, a white aqueous monolayer paint was developed, with the objective of opacifying, protecting and making a homogeneous interior surface with only one coat. Thus, from three reference paints and a base formulation from a supplier, it was formulated by varying extenders and pigments in order to verify the contribution of these to the coating power. After the completion of each paint, routine and exhaustive methods were carried out in order to obtain conclusions about the effects of the extenders pigments with the highest coating power. Styrene-acrylic resins are the best suited for the production of interior paints due to the high wet scrub resistance. At the initial stage a styrene-acrylic resin was used, however, by replacing this resin with a copolymer resin based on vinyl acetate and VeoVa (vinyl ester of versatic acid) the results obtained were improved. In order to adjust properties such as, applicability, levelling and opacity, applicability and levelling additives were introduced as well as different associative thickeners which resulted in a better paint opacity and other characteristics. After the completion of the formulation, it was possible to develop a monolayer paint, with all the necessary requirements, which guarantee the reliability and quality of this type of paint.
