Abstract(s)
The aim of this project report is to describe the process of creating a bilingual English-Portuguese glossary resulting from the translation of a set of documents from the scope of education. The corpus resulting from the translation is embedded in the field of education and, specifically, includes two sub-domains: the education systems in Germany, Poland and Portugal and the methodology used in the creation of a bilingual glossary based on a corpus on education, more specifically concerning the education systems of Germany, Poland and Portugal and the fields of study for the professions of automobile eletrician and mechanic. Throught the creationg of the glossary, I intend to create a translation support tool for IAMF employees. The creation of the European Union has opened up possibilities for studying and working in any Member State and the number of European projects such as Erasmus+ that facilitate that type of mobility is increasing. The Intercultural Association Mobility Friends (IAMF) is an Association for hosting participants in this type of projects and was part of a project called TransVETJob which focuses on creating a platform for recognition of qualifications to assist the transfer of workers in the European market with a focus on the German, Polish and Portuguese education systems and the qualifications of the occupations of eletricians and automobile mechanics. In the context of translating these documents, I came accross the idea of creating a glossary that will facilitate the process of translating this type of documents, guarantee their quality and be a tool to support the translator. It is also intended that the tool that results from this project is a versatile tool that can be adapted to any other European project.
