Abstract(s)
urbana, musical, tecnológica e as próprias mentalidades.
This project starts from the analysis of files and records made about the practice of Skateboarding in Aveiro and by its community, a practice widely known in Portugal. As a photographer, skater and active member of this community, I propose the creation of a visual narrative, in photobook format, bringing together the memories of this collective, presenting a collection of images from the last 30 years of this practice. Through the use of my images in combination with archival images (photographs, video, magazines and transcribed memories) I intend, in a collaborative way, to highlight not only aspects around the exercise of a sport practice, but, above all, the implications of the uses and appropriations of urban spaces, social interactions and experiences on the part of its practitioners. More broadly, there is a desire to reveal how the city can be read and symbolically ordered through a skaterlook, also revealing its connections not only with the city, but also with the evolution of visual, urban, musical, technological and mentalities themselves. Thus, it is expected that this photobook can relate different clippings of visual representations in the aveirense skateboard universe, built from discourses, practices and narratives expressed by the community. Starting from the understanding of Photography as the main tool for documental recording and memory construction, (on which the practice of Skateboarding has always relied), this research aims to explore how photography influences the perception of the history of skateboarding and invites us to participate (sometimes as a practitioner, sometimes as an observer). The main objective is to collect the history and visual narratives around this subculture in the city of Aveiro or by skaters from Aveiro, one of the most influential cities in national Skateboarding translated into a photobook, unpublished in Portugal.
