Abstract(s)
This research follows on the professional activity developed by the researcher as training coordinator and her personal interest for the community care area, and it develops within the scope of the Master in Professional Studies specialized in Education - specialization in Administration of Educational Organizations. This study intends to analyse the professional training developed in Portugal – a country where the profession of caregiver is not regulated despite the strong commitment of the various governments in the training and certification of these professionals -, comparing to the existing professional training in the same area in Spain and in Brazil – countries where this profession is regulated. It is also intended to contribute to a characterization of the current and future caregivers regarding their training and to understand the position of the employers in recruiting formal caregivers, seeking to correlate, in both cases, the certification of these professionals with the quality of the service they provide. The study was developed according to a mixed methodological approach, combining quantitative and quality data collection and analysis techniques. Surveys were carried out through questionnaires to trainees and to active caregivers; and semi-structures interviews were conducted with technical directors from 10 entities with activity in the community care area. Although the contribution of the training to the development of the professional activity of the caregiver is noticed by all the parties surveyed, the results highlighted the need to clarify the service providers in the community care area regarding the different training measures and the different levels of certification of the caregivers
