Abstract(s)
No
Introduction: Cochlospermum angolensis (Burututu) is a plant with medical properties used for the treatment of hepatic pathology and in prophylaxis against malaria. However, further studies are needed to prove its chemical composition and biological activity. Objectives: As the use of this plant is recurrent within the Angolan population, the main objectives of this study were to describe the state of art for its use, through popular knowledge and existing bibliographic literature; and to evaluate its bioactivity, with the proportion of aqueous and organic extracts and charcaterization of the bioactivity of the extracts obtained in unicelular organisns, namely, bactéria and yeasts. Methods: Organic and aqueous extacts were obtained by the classical extraction technique, using as solvente: distilld water, hexane, metanol, metanol/water (50:50) and dimethylsufoxide. Conclusion: With the development of this work, it was intended to contribute to the elucidation of the biological activity of Borututu, since i tis a plant widely used in Angola for medicinal purposes. The results obtained indicate that C. angolensis (Borututu) has chemical compounds which have inhibitory properties against bactéria and yeasts. With these results, it can be inferred that Borututu may presente properties of interest to the pharmaceutical and food industries.
