Abstract(s)
Internal Communication is a topic of interest for Public Relations, focused on managing the relatiosnhips with internal publics, and for Human Resources Management, focused on managing the employees. This dissertation is a case study on Internal Communication in Shared Services of the University of Porto (SPUP), a teaching and scientific research institution of reference in Portugal. To conduct this study, a questionnaire survey was applied to the employees and interviews were conducted with managers, which allowed characterizing the Internal Communication in the SPUP. SPUP employees are divided in the IC assessment: half evaluate communication positively and half negatively. Respondents report that communication does not work between services, but is good between teams. SPUP employees’ prefer to communicate by email, in meetings or informal gatherings, and receive information from their line manager. The topics of greatest interest are vocational training, unit / team strategy and career planning. The research also allowed the discovery of areas of improvement and opportunities for CI in the SPUP, although most respondents believe that in the next 12 months it will be the same or that there will be no room for developing it. This work contributes to increase knowledge about CI in the context of Shared Services in higher education institutions, particularly in Portugal and in a university that is a foundation.
