Abstract(s)
This thesis, entitled "Improvisation Strategies in Classical Piano Teaching: relevance and its integration in learning the instrument", explores the importance of improvisation in classical piano teaching, focusing on how to use it. A thorough reading through relevant published works, brings up the debate on theoretical foundations of improvisation, its relevance to musical development, and it sheds light on some of the methods and strategies that can facilitate classical piano teachers in the teaching-learning process of this instrument. 36 classical piano teachers in state schools were sent a survey and their answers ended up revealing that many piano teachers lack specific improvisation training, which conditions its use in lessons. The final reflection emphasises the importance of continuous teacher training and the need to integrate improvisation in a structured way into the classical piano teaching curriculum, thus contributing to the professional development of educators and the integral formation of students. The first two parts contain a guide to the observation of musical practice and supervised teaching practice related to this Master's Degree in Music Teaching.
