Abstract(s)
O objeto desta dissertação é uma proposta de tradução do capítulo “White-collar and
Corporate Crime”, do livro The Oxford Handbook of Criminology. A disciplina de criminologia
é relativamente recente no nosso país e há ainda muito pouca literatura, quer escrita em
português, quer traduzida para português. Este é um dos motivos pelos quais julgamos que
o nosso trabalho vem contribuir para a literatura criminológica em Portugal. Encaramos
este nosso trabalho como uma possível proposta de tradução deste manual à editora Oxford
University Press, uma vez que este é frequentemente utilizado pelos professores e estudantes
desta disciplina.
A proposta de tradução é acompanhada por um comentário à mesma, que se articula
com um enquadramento teórico e temático. A teoria apresentada serve para explicar os
constrangimentos que operam durante a tradução e apresenta-se como ponte para a análise
da tradução efetuada. O enquadramento temático serve como introdução a esta recente
disciplina, fornecendo resumidamente um panorama geral da criminologia.
A componente prática deste trabalho procura refletir as teorias de tradução que dão
primazia ao tradutor e ao seu papel de comunicador intercultural no processo da tradução.
No comentário à tradução, expõem-se e analisam-se as dificuldades encontradas ao longo
do processo de tradução, bem como as soluções encontradas. O comentário à tradução
demonstra a aplicação prática de algumas das estratégias de tradução de Peter Newmark e
Andrew Chesterman, referidas no nosso enquadramento teórico.
This paper presents a translation proposal of the chapter “White-collar and Corporate Crime”, from The Oxford Handbook of Criminology. Criminology is a fairly new discipline in Portugal and there is still little Portuguese-written literature, as well as Portuguese-translated literature in the field. And that is one of the reasons why we believe this work fills an existent void in Portugal’s criminological literature. This translation is also a possible translation proposal of this handbook for the Oxford University Press, because this handbook is frequently used by criminology teachers and students at university level. The translation proposal is accompanied by a theoretical and thematic framework and a commentary to the translation itself. The theoretical framework will help explain the constraints that occur during the translation process and it presents itself as a bridge to the analysis of the translation. The thematic framework is a brief introduction to this relatively new discipline. The practical section of this dissertation reflects mainly the translation theories that focus on the translator and on his role as an intercultural communicator, in the translation process. In the translation commentary, the difficulties found during the translation are described and analyzed. After presenting the difficulties, the solutions found to solve these problems are also described. The translation commentary reflects the application of Peter Newman’s and Andrew Chesterman’s translation strategies outlined in the theoretical part of this work.
