Abstract(s)
Since the mid-twentieth century, Western music has gone through several strands of composition, some of which explored many unconventional effects in the practice of the bassoon, such as bisbigliandi, multiphonics, or glissandi. The aim of this work was to contribute to a better understanding of some of these effects by exploring, through the creation of specific exercises, technical resources that enable their development and thus enable a better understanding, study and mastery of the instrument. Thus, in the first part of this work interviews were carried out to some of today's most respected bassoon players, in order to determine how they address the contemporary techniques of bassoon. In the second part of this study some of the main techniques used by bassoon players in recreating the effects required by the composers were described. Finally, a strongly musical component followed the descriptions. This consisted of various exercises designed for the purpose of this investigation, as well as the presentation of bassoon studies that were also composed for the purpose of this investigation, to allow for a better understanding and exploring of ways to improve features and techniques used in contemporary practice of bassoon.
