assegurando simultaneamente a qualidade do ensino.
Higher Education Institutions face increasing challenges in information management and decision-making, arising from the growing number of students, the diversity of educational offerings, and the need to meet institutional goals and public policies, while simultaneously ensuring the quality of education. This study aims to understand how Business Intelligence contributes to strategic decision-making in HEIs. In addition to the literature review, a multidimensional analysis was carried out on the evolution of the number of enrolled students between the academic years 2019/2020 and 2023/2024. The literature review enabled the contextualisation of higher education in Portugal, identifying key performance indicators and the relevance of Business Intelligence tools as support for decision-making by managers. Based on the CRISP-DM methodology (Cross-Industry Standard Process for Data Mining), a Business Intelligence solution was developed using Microsoft Power BI, structured in a multidimensional model and materialised in interactive dashboards. The results highlight the concentration of students in key regions, the predominance of public education, variations by field of study, and the stability in demand for higher education. The research showed that the success of implementing Business Intelligence tools depends on the digital maturity of HEIs, system interoperability, data quality, and the organisational capacity to adapt to new technologies. It is concluded that Business Intelligence constitutes a strategic tool to support academic management, enabling the monitoring of institutional performance, alignment with public policies, and the promotion of more informed and sustainable decisions.
