The main of this research is to evaluate the methodologies applied in the management of social development projects in Portugal and Ecuador, focusing on the identification and analysis of the tools and practices most commonly employed by social project managers. By recognizing the motivations and barriers associated with their implementation, this study aims to contribute to the literature on social project management. This research employs a qualitative methodology, conducting 10 interviews with 11 project managers. The study highlights the aspiration of society to effect substantial alterations in social reality, which is becoming increasingly evident within organizations and institutions. It underscores the importance of following a well-guided methodology to ensure the success of social development projects. Despite the existence of various methodologies in project management, the research reveals that many procedures are not fully followed due to the absence of guidelines and limited studies on the different methods implemented in social projects. The results reveal that project managers in Portugal and Ecuador characterize the use of tools, practices, techniques and methodologies as the main factor for the success of a project in each of the phases. This has made possible to verify that the motivations of each institutional project social manager continue to be guided by the experience and the results obtained; and that barriers are not an impediment, but rather that they focus on finding new practices in the techniques used for monitoring and follow-up, as well as viable financial alternatives. Not to be forgotten that in the future these tools could have a technological evolution thanks to the ability of the teams.por
