Abstract(s)
Although they present completely different mechanisms of sound production, both the piano and the organ use the keyboard as a bridge between the instrumentalist and the instrument. Performances by pianists on the organ and organists on the piano are therefore relatively frequent. There is also a considerable sharing of repertoire between the two instruments, whether by means of adaptations or transcriptions, which has been accompanied by an ample production of bibliography that has sought to establish guidelines for the practice of transcriptions from organ to piano and vice-versa. Based on a comparative study between a) two works by Bach for organ - "Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ" BWV 639 and the Prelude and Fugue in C M BWV 547 and their piano transcriptions, respectively done by Busoni and Liszt and b) Mendelssohn's Variations Sérieuses for piano and his transcription for organ by Reitze Smits, the aim is to understand to what extent the options taken by the transcribers and the interpretative strategies they suggest are related to the organological characteristics of each of the instruments.
