Abstract(s)
O junco marítimo, encontrado no Parque Natural do Litoral Norte, é o material
utilizado para a técnica artesanal de tecelagem com junco de Forjães, Freguesia situada
no extremo Norte do Concelho de Esposende, nas margens do Rio Neiva. Com este
material e o ofício de cestaria, faziam-se esteiras e mais tarde as famosas cestas.
Atualmente, o número reduzido de artesãs que ainda estão em atividade, fazem cestas e
praticamente não há nenhuma evolução desde a sua origem. Isso faz com que este ofício
e a sua produção, cestaria e estaria, não consiga afirmar-se no mercado competitivo da
produção em massa e massificada, sobretudo porque mesmo sendo criadas iniciativas
que tentam combater esta problemática, estas continuam a ser insuficientes.
Com este trabalho pretende-se aprender a técnica de tecelagem com junco de
Forjães, explorar a relação de designer-artesão e através do design desafiar artesãs a
fazer algo fora da sua zona de conforto.
Neste contexto, fez-se um levantamento de dados e uma contextualização do
artesanato e apoios deste setor, com foco no enquadramento histórico, cultural e na
técnica tradicional de Forjães - através de fontes orais e bibliográficas. Para a realização
deste projeto, foi imprescindível o contacto direto com as artesãs e ter uma participação
ativa durante todas as fases processuais, desde a recolha, transformação e tratamento do
junco marítimo, até a aprendizagem e exploração da técnica no tear. Todas estas fases
contribuíram para o desenvolvimento contínuo do projeto e estão fotograficamente
documentadas no presente relatório.
Conclui-se com o resultado deste projeto, a exigência requerida de um bom
planeamento para um produto da dimensão que o tapete desenvolvido no projeto teve,
pois na apanha do material é fundamental saber a quantidade que vai ser precisa na sua
execução. No final, este projeto revelou a necessidade de um contacto continuo com as
artesãs, para que haja uma evolução e divulgação desta arte artesanal.
Juncus maritimus, found in the Parque Natural do Litoral Norte is the material used for the handicraft technique of reed vveaving in Forjães, Esposende. With this material and art of working to produce mats and later the famous baskets were made. Novvadays, the reduced number of artisans that are still active, make baskets and there is no evolution since its origin. This makes this art unable to have a competitive place in the market alongside mass production, especially because even though initiatives are created that try to combat this problem, they are still insufficient. With this project, vve intend to learn the technique of vveaving vvith luncus maritimus, explore the designer-artisan relationship, and through design challenge the artisans to do something out of their comfort zone. In this context, a survey of data and contextualization of the craft and support of this sector, focusing on the historical, cultural, and traditional technique of Forjães - through oral and bibliographic sources - was done. To successfully carry out this project, it was essential to have direct contact with the craftsvvomen and to have active participation during all the procedural phases, from the collection, transformation, and treatment of the ]uncus maritimus to the learning and exploration of the technique on the loom. All these phases contributed to the continuous development of the project and are photographically documented in this report. We conclude With the result of the project, vvhich turned out to require good planning for a product of the dimension of the carpet produced: the gathering of material, for which a notion of the size of the piece is fundamental for quantity. In the end, this project revealed the need for continuous contact with the artisans, so that there is an evolution and dissemination of this handicraft art.
