Vaccination promotion strategies in the elderly: Sistematic Review and Meta-analysys

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that currently available vacines prevent 2 to 3 million deaths worlwide each year. Preventing infectious diseases is na importante public health priority to ensure healthy ageing and improve quality of life. It is therefore necessary to develop and implemente strategies to increase vaccination coverage to prevent diseases in the elderly. A systematic review and meta-analysis was carried out, including a bibliographic earch in the MEDLINE (via PubMed) and Scopus databases. Studies in older people (60 years or older) on any type of intervention aimed at increasing vaccination coverage were included. The effect of the intervention was measured using the odds ratio (OR). Educational strategies obtained na OR=1.62 (95% CI: 1.22-2.19, I2=0,59). The Medical counselling obtained a OR=3.13 (95% CI: 0.60-16,37, I2=0,95). The writing startegies obained a OR=1.14 (95% CI:0.99-1.32, I2=0,93). The educational strategies proved to be more effective than the others in the study, wich reinforces the importance of choosing the most appropriate strategy for promoting vaccination coverage.
