O setor hoteleiro em Portugal nos últimos anos tem vindo a crescer, com o aumento do turismo houve um grande investimento neste setor. Tal investimento não previa a crise que a hotelaria poderia vir a ter num curto prazo de tempo e da forma mais abrupta possível, devido à pandemia que se instalou. Devido a este crescimento exponencial os riscos são obrigatoriamente previstos, no entanto, os mais abordados são os riscos financeiros em detrimento dos restantes. Assim, com o presente estudo pretendeu-se perceber se é realizada a gestão de risco e qual o impacto dos riscos externos, nomeadamente o risco biológico relacionado com a COVID-19, no setor hoteleiro.
Para o desenvolvimento desta investigação e após a realização do estudo exploratório, identificou-se a informação que era necessária e decidiu-se estudar dois grupos diferentes assim, foram utilizadas duas metodologias, uma qualitativa e outra quantitativa, tendo sido criada uma entrevista e um questionário online, direcionados para gestores e colaboradores de unidades hoteleiras. Tendo por base uma amostra por conveniência, foram entrevistados 9 gestores e obtidas 90 respostas aos questionários. Através dos estudos foi possível perceber duas perspetivas sobre os mesmos temas, nomeadamente: gestão da empresa, gestão de risco, impacto da COVID-19 e mudanças que são esperadas no futuro no setor hoteleiro.
Foi possível concluir que quer os gestores quer os colaboradores não têm grande informação sobre gestão de risco. Relativamente ao impacto dos riscos externos, nomeadamente do risco biológico, concluímos que teve um grande impacto, no entanto, serviu para trabalhar determinadas ideias que de outra forma não seria possível.
Assim, espera-se que o presente trabalho de investigação possa contribuir para o desenvolvimento e implementação da área de gestão de risco, permitindo aos gestores criar ferramentas e desenvolver estratégias para enfrentar crises semelhantes.
The hotel industry in Portugal has been growing in recent years, with the increase in tourism there has been a large investment in this sector. Such investment did not foresee the crisis that the hotel industry could have in a short period of time and in the most abrupt way possible, due to the pandemic that took place. Due to this exponential growth, risks are certainly considered, however, the most addressed risks are financial, at the expense of the rest. This study is aimed to understand whether risk management is carried out and what is the impact of external risks, namely the biological risk related to COVID-19, in the hotel industry. In the development of this investigation and after conducting the exploratory study, the needed information was identified and it was decided to study two different groups, two methodologies were used, one qualitative and the other quantitative, having been set up an interview and an online questionnaire, directed at managers and employees of hotel units. Based on a convenience sample, 9 managers were interviewed and 90 responses to the questionnaires were obtained. Through the studies it was possible to perceive two perspectives on the same topics, namely: company management, risk management, the impact of COVID-19 and the expected changes in the future of the hotel industry. It was possible to conclude that both managers and employees do not have much information on risk management. Regarding the impact of external risks, namely biological risk, we conclude that it had a great impact, however, it served to work on certain ideas that would not otherwise be possible. Thus, it is expected that the present research work can contribute to the development and implementation of the risk management area, allowing managers to create tools and develop strategies to deal with similar crises.
