Abstract(s)
The organizational climate is one of the most important factors in an organization, as it makes it possible to grasp the employees’ positive and negative perceptions and, consequently, to diagnose the necessary changes to ensure their satisfaction. The aim of the present study is to find out the overall perception of the employees at one of Instituto Federal do Triângulo Mineiro (IFTM) campus, as regards the organizational climate and its variables, as well as to understand the way in which this climate has an influence on the employees’ degree of satisfaction at their workplace. In order to accomplish my goal, I carried out a thorough review of literature dealing with the theme in question, along with a qualitative case study methodology. All of the campus employees, without a director position, took part in the study. A total of eleven employees responded to a semi-structured interview, and the remaining participants answered a questionnaire. The results show that the employees’ satisfaction level concerning their institution is very high, despite a few aspects in need of improvement. Most of the employees are proud of their campus and feel professionally fulfilled. The variables that most contribute to the campus’s organizational climate were found to be the quality of the leader’s relationship with the staff, and the interpersonal relationship among most of the employees. The variables found to have a negative effect on the climate were mostly the physical facilities and environment, the quality of communication, and the relationship between the administrative/technical staff and faculty, which is sometimes conflictual due to feelings of superiority, divergences related to career development plans, and faculty’s career privileges which are not granted to the administrative and technical staff.
